Since Friday's attacks, French police have conducted almost 300 raids.
How would American citizens feel about so many raids in such a short time frame. IOW...could the American justice system approve that many warrants that quickly?

(2,884 posts)1. that many warrants that quickly: Hollande has declared a "state of emergency"
For 12 days, searches can be conducted by police forces without warrants issued by judges.

Yorktown
(2,884 posts)4. I suppose there must be a legal equivalent
From what I understand
- state of siege = war with a foreign power
- state of emergency = internal strife (riots, insurrection)
Anyway, Homeland Security must be covered by some undisclosed presidential finding.
