Christie put-downs aim to deflect bad news (not Krugman . . . . local NJ columnist)

David J. Rosen, the Legislature’s veteran budget analyst, is a cautious, silver-haired technocrat who prefers to stay in the background until summoned by lawmakers to share his forecasts for the state’s fiscal future.
Governor Christie’s spokesman says comments made by Christie that seem over the top are simply responses to over- the-top criticism.

But last Wednesday, a clearly irritated Governor Christie tagged him as the Legislature’s “Dr. Death,” the bearer of a gloomy revenue report that threatened to kill Christie’s promised income tax cut.

“So they [Democrats] needed to call in the Dr. Kevorkian of the numbers,” Christie said to a group of transportation industry officials, referring to the Michigan doctor convicted of second-degree murder for assisting patients to commit suicide. “Why would anyone with a functioning brain believe this guy?”

-snip-

Christie deflects trouble by scalding his critics or messengers who bring bad news with a sensational, made-for-YouTube remark. Make those critics, those who challenge him, the topic of controversy, not the governor. Put their name — or their unflattering new nickname — in the headlines.

wrong-headed tack. It's quite clear that he has no financial sense whatsoever when it comes to governance. Every time he's got the chance to do something fiscally sound and right for NJ, he fucks it up---then wants to play the loud mouthed, shit talking bully when someone states the obvious.

Meet fire with fire and rudeness with rudeness. Make him squander what dignity he may have had by acting like an out of control, hysterical, emotional ass. Make him break out in epic flop sweat on camera. Make him perform like a circus act. Don't back down.

of the "New Jersey Comeback" on his watch. He has his TV spots on not only in New Jersey, not only in the Tri-State region, but all over the country. The Emperor has no clothes.

Do these reporters know to look behind his wisecracks and report facts? No, just sound bite news and then wait to be spoon fed.
