(15,876 posts)Something really bad happened there, and nothing was done.
The unfettered "liberty" to firearms can impact the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Yes, I know, the OP was about abuses by the national security state. I'm with you there.
But some memes aren't entirely logical.

(15,876 posts)I agree that massacres by lone nuts cannot be totally prevented, but the gun control issue is much broader than that. I live in Chicagoland, and many of the guns used to commit crimes in "Chi-raq" come across the Indiana border from straw buyers at gun shows. Reducing the sheer proliferation made possible by lax laws will save lives.
But the reason for my post was not to debate the very complicated, difficult, contentious issue of gun control.
It was mostly to point out that sometimes when really bad things happen in this country, virtually nothing is done.
Too often, the American people are manipulated into fearing things that are very low on the list of actual threats to us personally.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
