Never thought I would say this about George W. Bush....

Chris Hayes on MSNBC ran a clip of President Bush speaking six days after 9/11. He made a statement after meeting with Muslim community leaders in which he said that the attack on America had been done by a small group of extremists and that we needed to support and respect the religion of Islam. I was impressed by his sincerity and eloquence.

when even Bush looks like a reasonable moderate. Same with Reagan when it came to things other than business and tax cuts.

Perhaps he was thinking of how to fly the bin Ladens to freedom or how to get out of town before the rubes catch on?

Quite frankly, he took way to long to make that statement. Still, it is amazing to note how drastically different GOP candidates are today.

for when he called the war on terrorism a "crusade", which is tantamount to whacking a hornets' nest with a baseball bat in terms of the Islamic world.

This clip is apparently from six days after the attacks.

That was like throwing a gasoline soaked rag on the problem, followed by a match. He had to put out the fire that he started.

Those guys were SO tone-deaf around Islam. He didn't even know there were "two kinds." No one, apparently, educated him about the profound differences between shi'a and sunni, and how Saddam Hussein was like the frigging Tito of Yugoslavia of the Middle East when it came to keeping the lid on that boiling pot.

And remember when "Wolfie" went to that masjid in Turkey? He KNOWS he's going, and the bum couldn't even send a servant down to the bazaar to buy himself a new pair o'socks? Surprised he didn't try to steal someone's shoes (it happens, occasionally)!
