Military gives 5:1 ratio campaign donations to President Obama over Romney and the media wants me to believe that the military would support a draft-dodger whose endorsements include birthers, pedophiles, and racists??? Thats like a Union member voting for a scab as their Union prez. Buuullshiiiit. Romney also wants endless war and can't wait to bomb Iran. Obama ordered the killing of OBL while Romney said it wasn't worth "moving heaven & earth". And they support a nominee that said "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt"?? The very people they are supposedly protecting Romney wanted to let them starve. The media's hidden agenda has become so incredibly transparent. So they're telling me that the military is donating FAR GREATER to a candidate they want to lose??? Riiiiiiiiight.

(6,080 posts)who the hell are they polling? 97 yr old Vets?
They will twist and cheat with a poll to get the sample they want and they want everything to be against Obama.
Those fucking bastards should not even be allowed to conduct a poll
That is such bullshit I can't imagine

(31,011 posts)The last election Obama lost the veteran vote by 10 points, but he was way ahead of McStupid in donations.

(137 posts)Military is still majority conservative...
Not all.. not every.. just majority...
In most Soldier's eyes Republicans have been more military friendly. There are certainly arguments to be made against it but that is how most see it.

(163,986 posts)I think it's more accurate to say the officer corps is majority conservative. But donations would suggest that you can't generalize to the whole force from that.

(27,247 posts)Of course, that's just an anecdotal example, but having been exposed to a large number of military types in my lifetime, I can also say that the majority of enlisted people I've met do tend to favor Republicans. Low-ranking officers tended to be a little more liberal.

ETA: But, I surmised there was something going on in the ranks when of all the bogus groups Karl Rove claimed as "values voters" he neglected to claim the military. And, as we found later, that campaign never did claim to get that vote. So, that was interesting.

(137 posts)... then you know that Joe loves nothing more than to bullshit.
As a politically interested person I can almost always get em going about something. Most of they time they don't realize it and I leave it neutral so as not to sway their response.
I'm not claiming scientific knowledge to the nth degree. I'm claiming personal experience over years and different units that was spread across the whole spectrum of rank, branch or service.

(26,549 posts)Vets skew right and old. Think about all the old guys hanging out at the VFW.
The 5:1 donation is from active duty personnel, not vets. They skew young.
So, if one wants to accurately portray that situation, it looks an awful lot like "young" vs. "old". But that doesn't align with the "military loves Republicans" conventional wisdom. So CNN spun it with the conventional wisdom, ignoring the inconvenient data.
