I do not think this jury system is working!

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by TexasTowelie (a host of the General Discussion forum).

Some DUers post really obnoxious posts and when it goes to Jury, most people vote to leave it alone, no matter how obnoxious the comments are.

I just want to make my voice heard. Have no idea what the owners of this site can do, I know they are trying to be fair but sometimes, it depends who are on the jury!

The admins are the ones who set up the jury system.

That's why I suggested ATA.

I only alert in instances of completely out of line personal attacks on a poster.

Meta is not important to me - just boring.

It was kind of a joke back on your post about the jury system. I should have added the sarcasm smilie I guess.

Sorry you didn't get it.

But no, I didn't alert. I never alert on meta posts.

And my suggestion to take it to ATA was meant seriously. They're the ones in charge here, ya know?

I have friends and family in Canada.

And I can tell you one thing - I serve on juries quite frequently. Just like my attitude about alerts...I never vote to hide unless it is a pure personal attack.

I have voted to hide posts that are personal attacks even when a poster I like has been alerted on. I have voted (much more often) to leave posts by posters that I really can't stand. I try to be fair, and I don't for one minute think I'm the only one who tries to be fair when they're called for jury duty.

I've found that most juries I'm on - always vote to leave unless it's a really egregious offense.

No doubt there are some who are biased when they're jurying, but I like to think the best of my fellow DUers.

I realize that your OP must have come from a recent hide/alert or whatever.

I had no knowledge of that, just so you know.

I've been cooking all day, and will be tomorrow as well, so kind of out of the loop.

I'm familiar with your posts and truly cannot imagine that you would warrant a hide on any occasion.

Many moons ago, I got a post hidden when I complained that one poster was calling another poster a racist. So go figure.

I don't even remember the posters involved. But I rarely do. I like the fact that I forget so quickly, though it must confuse those who think I dislike them lol.

hide it and gave an explanation. Lo and behold, the post was not hidden, five jurors voted to leave it alone, hence my question if the jury system works. I do not know about you, but I love DU. I respect all of you on here but sometimes I question what is fair or not fair.

I truly have to say though, that most times it seems to work.

This is only my experience. But I do understand the frustration when a really awful post is allowed to stand.

Hey, in that case, I reassure myself by thinking that all of DU can see what an ass that particular poster is. Lol, somehow that makes me feel better.

I have been on maybe a dozen juries, and only once have I seen something which merited being alerted upon.

and for the 90% of what I saw as abusive alerts, I was amazed by the number of jurors ready to hide at the mere hint of the trace of a reason.

lo and behold, the post gets hidden. We are all adults on here, we are responsible for what we post, sometimes we might get carried away and post something silly and if it gets hidden, so be it.

But it seems as though you cannot even ask a question on here without being told, go to ATA, they do not respond to you, especially when it is night time, no one expects them to be on call 24/7, they have lives too.

Sorry for the long response

But having served as a moderator in the olden days, I think this system is much more transparent. At least posts aren't getting completely erased.

I remember the days of ...

1) No Sex Threads
2) No Copycat Threads
3) No Nicknames for candidates

So many rules were arbitrary. This new system allows for more common sense.

I think the issue of too few hides, in your opinion, stems from the fact that liberals are less likely to apply censorship unless there is compelling evidence to do so. Unless you say "FU" to someone or go completely off the rails, I'm likely to vote to LEAVE.

this post was very obnoxious and it was an obvious personal attack on a poster. My guess because the poster is an avid Hilary fan. I was extremely disappointed only one other person saw fit to vote to hide. I guess as long as the attack is on the opposition it's okay with some people. It is not nor will it ever be okay with me to let racist crap slide.

Never let anyone beat you down either on here or in real life. Stand for whom you like. I could never forget how Mrs. Clinton and her supporters went after Mr. Obama when it seemed as he will get the nomination. She lives to tell the tale that she is credible because President Obama choose her as Secretary of State. Do you think I can bring up how nasty she was in 2008, hell no! I'd be banned. I could never support Hilary Clinton for President, I support Mr. Sanders!

And that is why I will not do a pile on of anyone I don't care what side they are on. I will not do dog whistles. I will not do personal attacks at least from my POV, some may see my words differently. And I absolutely will not sit by and watch any poster be attacked like that it's ugly. I don't care who anyone supports we can still be friends. Just don't aim the ugly in my direction if you get my drift.

I remember what Hilary did in o8 as well. It was ugly and I don't see that she has changed much. I will not vote for her in the primary no matter what. If something happens and Bernie doesn't get the momentum I think he will, I might vote for O'Malley.

flailing for a nominee, Mrs. Clinton, have no idea if Americans will vote for her. The Clintons never supported blacks and the three strikes you are out by Bill Clinton, put a lot of blacks in prisons.

You all in a deep blue sea, Trump is not the answer so Democratic Americans have to hold their noses and vote for Mrs. Clinton. Mr. Sanders nor Omalley are not even close, Mrs. Clinton has come and won!

the fact that she could lose the GE with a number like that seems to escape her supporters. I will stay with Bernie for as long as he is a viable option. Then I will vote for O'Malley if I have to. No way Hilary gets my vote without earning it, by earning it I mean she denounces some of the racist institutions she has upheld the status quo for.
