I've already done a bunch of chopping and preparing, and I'm going to cheat eat some of the cheese slices I have made for appetizers.
If I don't like them, how can I know my guests will?

(14,177 posts)only this year I am making a broccoli pasta salad instead, so I will cheat eat that. Dinner is scheduled for 3pm so we will probably eat around 7.

(14,177 posts)A box of rotini cooked drained and rinsed til cold, a bag or maybe less of frozen broccoli cooked, drained and chilled. Mayo or ranch dressing. cherry tomatoes lots of them and some chopped onions, how ever much that you like. And that is how I measure my recipes in real life. Oh it's supposed to be cold.

My dear friend (now sadly departed) used to talk about the one Thanksgiving dinner her mother cooked.
Marguerite told everyone (about twenty people) that dinner would be served at 3 pm. - but never having cooked a turkey (or much of anything else) before, she put it in the oven at a very low temp.
She eventually served dinner when the turkey was finally cooked - at 11:15 p.m.
As my friend related, there was NO chit-chat at the dinner table. People were so hungry, there wasn't a moment to be spared in staving off imminent death caused by starvation.
After that experience, my friend always advised that the smart hostess, who wants to avoid unpleasant or confrontational table-talk, simply tells her guests they'll be eating at least eight hours before food is actually put on the table.

(14,177 posts)The smart guests who want to avoid starvation carry granola bars. Yeah, I learned that the hard way.

(27,814 posts)... is that despite the in-fighting, the vitriol, the hate-fest that has become the hallmark of the Primary Wars - we're all just everyday people attempting to prepare for the Thanksgiving Gone Wrong scenario.
God help us all.
