Here's one of mine:
Five years after losing a portion of my right lung to cancer my oncologist sat me down, took my hand in his, looked me square in the eye and said, My waiting room is for sick people. Get out of here! Then he and his nurse gave me smiling hugs and waved good-bye as I floated out of the clinic.

(11,833 posts)I'm grateful that I enjoy the beauty of nature. I love all kinds of art, but nothing moves me as much as the sky and clouds and sun and moon. It's an ever-changing canvas of awesome beauty.
Great thread. I hope others join in!

is that I now have to ability to help others in need as, once upon a time, I was a person of deep need.
Needs and wants are different, it was always my want to be able to help people in need.
I am thankful for still having a voice in this world. I am thankful that My Oma graced my life for 47.5 of my years on this planet.
I am grateful that I have 2 nephews and a niece. I have two amazing sisters and friends that make my life shine.
Most of all, I am grateful that 10 years ago something in the universe brought me to partner that finally helped my life become balanced
I have everything to be thankful for. It might sound trite to some, but like you madamesilverspurs, facing a precipice and coming back to light and love that is the thing that makes everything so much clearer, loving and joyful.
Thank you for this OP. I am glad you are here.

(9,083 posts)Despite the fact that I had 4th stage breast cancer and no insurance (and no job, at the time), they still convinced me I should be treated. I thought for sure I was "going home to grandma," my words for biting the big one, but a year later I am still here.
