There have been no riots and minimal arrests.
The media has been covering this as front page first story news.
WGN talk radio which tends to be moderate to right wing has been very much against the actions of the police department and the mayor and the states's attorney.
I'm hoping some change can happen. I'm probably naive

The theme of the protest is also to call attention to Black Lives vs black Friday shopping. The protests are occurring in the fanciest shopping district in the city.
Kudos to the organizers and those who participated. I wish I didn't have to work. I would have gone.
Not that the events in Colorado Springs aren't important, because they certainly are, but I was afraid the protest coverage would be completely overshadowed by it because the media doesn't seem to be able to handle multiple stories at once very well.

(32,324 posts)I am coming home from a late night gathering of friends, many of us active Vietnam War protesters.
I take a shortcut through the South Side of Chicago, and as I drive up to an empty intersection, I notice a Chicago cop busting the body of a little black kid, who couldn't have been more than nine years old. Just swinging away at him with his billy club.
I go through the red light, attempting to catch up with another cop, this one in a patrol car. He sees me flashing my high beams at him. He finally stops and asks me what is wrong.
I explain the situation and he tells me that he saw me go through the red light and that I was getting a ticket for doing that. And he could care less about the other cop's brutality.
The more things change...
