Trump Rally Features Convicted Animal Abuser's Elephant

Sarasota, Florida (CNN)While the Donald Trump campaign has been called a circus in the past, this Saturday might have been the only time an actual elephant was on the scene.

At a campaign stop in Sarasota, Florida, a female Asian elephant named Essex was seen walking around outside the grounds with "Trump -- Make American Great Again" drawn with chalk on its side.

The elephant is owned by a company called "The Elephant Walk," whose owner Frank Murray said he is a Trump supporter and decided to come out and bring Essex with him.

The elephants are forced to stand for up to 10 hours a day, surrounded by throngs of people, and forced to give rides to patrons all day long for months at a time. Frank Murray uses whips, chains, and bullhooks in order to subdue them into performing and not acting out, when in reality, these are incredibly intelligent creatures who also have a history of violence when treated in an extreme manner.
