It's just disgusting, but here are two links you should really look at:
http://www.gunviolencearchive.org/
and
http://www.killedbypolice.net/
What are you doing about this? I'm curious. I'm out of ideas.
All I can do is try to keep a memorial about it. If you want to see the latest update, it's here:

More importantly, what are you doing? Maybe I can pitch in.

(43,890 posts)it's something. Not the praying type, here. But as a child of the 60s I do think sending out good vibes of any kind helps a bit.

(3,535 posts)It could really change things.
I post a lot of places, and sometimes I just feel like I'm preaching to the choir. It's time (if not too late) for some action. Don't you think?
Township75
(3,535 posts)Maybe I should ask what is doable. What could actually get done?
Unfortunately, DU has gotten to me and I usually end up making snarky comments because it is preaching to the choir, like you said, and it's more preaching, and it's more preaching....and if you don't preach the right stuff, you get banned.
Doable means we need republicans on board. I don't see how we pass legislation without them, or how we get rid of/drastically reduce gun violence without them. It's the same with some important Repub issue (e.g. business incentives, taxes, defense)...they can't do much without us.
To be frank, I think developing a self defense alternative to firearms would do more to get guns off the street than a resource intensive legislative battle that could be for nothing or only temporary and minuscule gains.
Your ideas? I am sincerely listening (or reading).

(9,828 posts)and memes gleaned from friends/family (the ones who aren't gun nuts). I speak out when the opportunity arises. I try to help awaken some of those who are still asleep on their feet. I don't know that it does any good. I do know that some family members and I are not on speaking terms because I asked them to cease & desist with their sexist, racist e-mails.

(2,337 posts)I mean, it's done so much for gun control in the past. Yessir, make fun of gun owners for mentioning confiscation, then suggest it 48 hours later. I just don't get why nobody trusts us!

(50,950 posts)against all these pesky gun massacres, you seem to feel that you are the one being wronged, and everyone else is untrustworthy.
Your position in this is very sick.

(2,337 posts)Call me old fashioned, but those that don't respect one cannot be trusted to respect any of the others.
I can respect those that call for bans and prohibition backdoors routinely. It's the ones who harp on about "Nobody wants to ban guns!", then turn around and lead the band when it's convenient that I'm concerned by. Have some convictions.

Again, your response is self-obsessed and sick.
And PS, the second amendment is for maintaining a militia to protect the state. This shit has nothing to do with the second amendment.

(3,829 posts)It would be nice if some people would consider the rights of Americans to not be murdered so some selfish asses can have their stupid guns.
How can anybody support an activity that causes so much harm to the innocent? pure selfishness.

(63,221 posts)I really don't understand how so many people think that their right to gun ownership is more important than the right of others to live. How on earth have I gotten this far in life without ever having owned or laid a finger on a gun?

It's insane.

(12,723 posts)The fact that this is not very likely is not really such a cause for concern from you. yes, no one is confiscating your fucking guns. Which is a goddamn shame.
Frankly I am sick to fucking death of your fucking right to have a weapon. As I have told many a gun humping fool today if you want a gun join a fucking militia. Otherwise how about joining the civilized countries and people of this world.

(22,165 posts)I write state and federal congress critters and let them know how I feel. I donate $$$ to anti gun groups. I no longer 'shut up" .... I speak my mind, on this subject.

(20,176 posts)Apparently, most of the membership doesn't bother mailing in their ballots so if even 1% of people sick of the shootings joined the NRA and became voting members, we could boot out Wayne the Domestic Terrorist Enabler and board members, nominating and replacing them with people who would return the NRA to supporting sane gun legislation like it did for most of its history.
If nothing else, it would rob the gun lobby of a powerful voice.
that's a good idea. Honestly.

(4,742 posts)I didn't bother to transfer when I moved to Maine, and now in NYC...well, I *do* regularly carry $1500-5000 between restaurants so maybe?
But yes. Nationwide "may deny" FOID/permit to purchase a la Connecticut (where I grew up and got one, it's no big deal!), mandatory FFL transfers (a 4473 is not registration per se, but it is a chain of custody), safe storage, and a lot more are fine by me.
Though to be clear, NOT an AWB or any hardware restrictions in particular - AR-15s are as legal as any other rifle across most of Europe (NOT the Commonwealth, do not mix them up!) and yet they don't have mass shootings.

(4,742 posts)I figure if I'm involved in something (even if I don't engage in it publicly), I should be at least a bit knowledgeable about it...damn my enlightened parents!
It seems to me that while gun control is definitely necessary and works, after a certain point it sort of asymptotes...looknat Germany vs. the UK, if I remember correctly they have about the same murder rate but the Germans allow any kind of (non-full-auto) rifle your heart desires and even *gasp* handguns. But the vetting and tracking system works. Hell, New Zealand doesn't even have registration and their rate is like 0.9 or something...relatively high but it makes sense if you know a Kiwi
