<snip>And then the president honored Juliette Jordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts who died in 1927 at the age of 66.
Obama: Juliette Gordon low was not exactly typical. She recognized early on that in order to keep up with the changing times, women would have to be prepared. A century lateralmost 60 million Girl Scouts have gained leadership skills and self-confidence through the organization she founded.
But I hope Republicans werent watching: Some of them aren't really fans of the Girl Scouts.
Like Indiana State Representative Bob Morris, who said that he thinks Planned Parenthood works with Girl Scouts to sexualize young girls. He also says Girls Scouts... promote homosexual lifestyles.

(5,756 posts)Is there any evidence the Girl Scouts ever partnered with or their national organization made supportive comments about Planed Parenthood? I could certainly see how they might promote PP as a place low-income scouts could get PABST smears or other women's preventive health care. I don't see how that would be different from recommending AA or NA to troubled people.
I really just think these backwards ass idiots are angry the Girl Scouts are not throwing out gay scouts and scout leaders like the Boy Scouts are.
In addition, any organization that tries to uplift and support women seems to be a target for the GOP these days.
I think the GOP ascribes to the policy of "let's keep 'em barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen."

(40,416 posts)That's why Boy Scouts who are gay or atheists -- dare I say non-Christian -- get kicked out.
Girl Scouts? That's a good organization.

(11,357 posts)I wouldn't want them thinking that any rational person would have a problem with endorsing the Girl Scouts.
