Says Dear was not a Christian. How is Steve King still in the House

(135,880 posts)Prosecutors this week plan to charge Robert Lewis Dear, 57, with murder and other crimes in the Nov. 27 attack that also left nine other people wounded. Colorado Springs police have refused to discuss a motive for the fusillade, but there's mounting evidence to suggest Dear was deeply concerned about abortion, having rambled to authorities about "no more baby parts" after his arrest.
Dear asked at least one person in the nearby shopping center where the Planned Parenthood was earlier that morning, an official told the Associated Press.
A second law enforcement official said Dear assembled propane tanks around a vehicle and brought at least 10 guns, including rifles and handguns, to the clinic, where he swapped gunfire with officers during an hours-long standoff. It was unclear whether Dear purchased all of them, but despite brushes with the law, he had no felony convictions that would have prevented him from buying a firearm.

(63,221 posts)Fuck them all. They are just murdering assholes hiding behind their false concern for "baybeeez". It's like claiming the insanity theory for committing a horrible crime. They think it will get them off the hook.

(46,347 posts)I've seen schizophrenics blurting out stuff based on the voices in their heads, and this guy was doing that.
H2O Man
(73,621 posts)I worked for decades with people suffering from major mental illnesses, including the range of illnesses known as "schizophrenia." His "blurting" seemed rather well-timed, and he was definitely following the conversation taking place around him. Even if one believes that he has a mental illness, he made it 100% clear that he understands and appreciates the concepts of "right and wrong."
Is he a strange man? Yes. Hopefully, there aren't many others like him. Might he be attempting to play "mentally ill"? Very good chance of it.

(3,580 posts)I think he was quite clear thinking that he wanted to murder people because of his ideology and extreme religious beliefs.
He knew what he was doing. I don't think based on what he said in court that he is insane. I do think in order to protect his rights he should have a psychiatric assessment but hey since he said he's guilty, I take his word for it.
