I've noticed it gets really nasty there. Instead of arguing points, I get nasty comments about my weight, my appearance or my wife who isn't an American citizen.
There's a reason I call Twitter users twits. It's as bad there as it is as Discussionist.

(6,335 posts)I just use the egg-head thing or people use their dog or whatever.
I opened a new acct becuz I had 100's of followers which I thought I had to follow back. Now I just follow the politicians and pundits of both parties and political news outlets so I only get important posts on home page. A lot nicer.

The only time I access it is during major news events, especially offshore. I think I've made 4 posts there since it's been there.

(41,829 posts)That's cause you can add those who want to add you, and most do it cause they find you interesting, not because you support someone they hate. You can block people or simply mute them too, if you wish. I have gained a lot of followers and the ones who don't care what I have to say will unfollow if they wish. Unfollowers will not send you nasty comments because they know its a waste of time, or they will be reported, or blocked.
The whole reason I left FB because I got tired of the fact anyone could just post a racist remark to my account, anytime they felt like it. That doesn't happen much on twitter, and if it did, again block them, or report abuse.
