(135,425 posts)There isn't this great groundswell of decency in America. There are plenty of haters afoot. Some of them even stop by here every now and again, but Thanks Be To MIRT they usually don't manage to stay for very long.

(16,875 posts)If there was a shred of decency left, Donald Trump would have been laughed out of the primaries in the summer. Sadly, there is a very vocal minority in this country that wishes to hold on to the dying gasps of segregation and white supremacy that has latched on to Trumps campaign as a savior to restore all that is "White in America"...err I mean "Right in America" or "Make America White Again"...damn I meant "...Great Again"

(8,830 posts)has ever been impeached for judicial performance. He was acquitted. That was in 1803.
Several justices have had motions for impeachment forwarded - all for misconduct - but none went to impeachment.
The Constitution is so vague on this issue as to be useless, and Congress is apparently terrified of suggesting that the judicial performance of any SC justice is grounds for removal.

(1,832 posts)The House of Representatives indicts the accused on articles of impeachment, and, if impeached, the Senate conducts a trial to determine the party's guilt or innocence.
Impeachment is a two-step process; the impeachment phase is similar to a Grand Jury hearing, where charges (called "articles of impeachment" are presented and the House of Representatives determines whether the evidence is sufficient to warrant a trial. If the House vote passes by a simple majority, the defendant is "impeached," and proceeds to trial in the Senate.

(24,772 posts)He's one of theirs. OTOH, let's say that if Justice Sotomayor made offhand remarks about Italians being mob connected, she'd be impeached before the ink on the articles of impeachment have had a chance to dry.

(4,458 posts)and wish I had posted the link I read earlier...I reviewed "a" roll call-I was searching for this particular vote and assumed I had found it..I should have double checked What I was looking at...now that I cannot even find that site again. At this juncture I must accept I have erred...
I am always curious about the "long-timers" past positions.....
I apologize.

(16,113 posts)He was confirmed 98-0 with two not voting. The confirmation was in 1986, but Reid didn't start in the Senate until the following year.

(4,458 posts)one of the best places for seeds (gardening) is Territorial Seeds- not too far south of where you'll be-about 20 miles.
May 15th is the target planting dates locally...so, if you know where you'll be...you can have your garden planned and ready to go
There is a lot of great fishing spots...rivers/lakes/ponds/ocean. You'll never get bored around here

(15,057 posts)He has exposed the reality and the ugliness of the Republican Party.
But he has also tarnished our image in the world, whether we like it or not.
And here are my questions: What if he wins the GOP nomination? And what if he then goes on to win (or steal) the presidency?
Yeah, like you, I think it's unlikely. Nonetheless ...
So let's take this "... good for the presidential race" with a grain of salt.
