GOP Debate 2015: Military Experience Of Republican Presidential Candidates Raises Questions Among Veterans And Advocate Groups

During a time when the U.S. is facing growing threats from the Islamic State group and renewed Russian aggression, among other military-related issues, does the president of the United States need to have military experience? And will the clear lack of it among Republican hopefuls be a factor?

Nearly all of the pro-war veteran types that I've run into never saw any real action

my experience with that issue that is.

It had a profound effect on me, one that totally changed my life and not for the better bur rather for the burden I carry on my shoulders for not doing more than I did to stop it once I got home. I did as much as I felt I could but looking back I realize I could have done more.

I went as a kid, came home as a troubled man.

Peace

Not only is this guy a vet but he was a POW.

Being a vet doesn't preclude one from being a war monger

I wouldn't put him in the same category of a combat vet like a guy who was an infantryman.

He dropped bombs from high in the air and spent time as a POW. He never had to actually see the impact his weapons have on men, women, and children like an infantryman does when they assess the dead and wounded after a firefight.

His service probably left him with a sense of pride while my service (as an infantryman) left me troubled and shamed.

...their bloodlust--or, let's be honest, proxy greed--would be no less reprehensible.

More worrying is their utter lack of experience and knowledge behind all the tough tak.

(and looking at the last 100 years of Middle East history, the conclusion is
pretty much inescapable that the West started it . .)

and so now the violence does not work and/or blows back . .

and the Right's answer? More Violence!!
