Blind Dog Named Christmas Rescued After Being Trapped in a Well for Months

After months of living alone in a well, a blind, elderly dog named Christmas has been rescued -- and his rescue was captured in a touching video.

"Surprisingly, the dog is in fairly good, psychical condition," said Laura Simpson, founder of the Harmony Fund in Holden, Massachusetts. "The blindness of course is from a pre-existing condition, but he's now in foster care and we’re hoping he can find a home there he’s loved and respected in the way he should be."

Simpson told ABC News that it was last week when international animal rescuer Fahrudin Caki Bravo and his friend Ratko Koblar received word of a dog trapped in a well in nearby Bosnia.

"The dog had been there for months and they don’t know if he was thrown in, or if he fell in," Simpson said. "We’re certainly hoping that he fell, but with the dog being completely blind, he was only kept alive because the local children were kind enough to feed him."

I sincerely hope they closed up that well. A little kid or even adult could easily fall in. KittyWampus Dec 2015 #15

Also wonder if the people there didn't know what to do so they just gave the kids the food.

I passed on watching the first time I saw this because I too thought I would cry. But I came back just because I wanted to see the dog get out of the well. My dog Cheyenne will be 14 soon, she is a small black cock-a-poo who has lived with me since she was ten weeks old. A couple of years ago, she developed cataracts and cannot see. Working with my vet, I decided not to have the operation, yet she has lived here so long she walks the regular paths we used to walk with no problem. So of course I thought I needed to see this elderly blind dog be rescued.

The tears you cry will be tears of joy when that dog puts paw to earth and you learn he is in foster care.

Happy holidays to you.

Sam

we deserve a brief respite for some peace, love and joy. We have been thru a lot! Have a wonderful holiday celebration with your family and friends, which of course includes any animals you have come to treasure.
