24 years ago, today, my wife and I got married under a tree in our front yard. A winter solstice wedding. By coincidence, her birthday is on the spring equinox. I never forget either date.

(1,958 posts)I have never understood how some men, and some women, forget important dates such as birthdays and anniversaries. Of course, I have been called the birthday savant by my family. For some reason, I remember the birthdates of all of my family and extended family. A couple of years ago, a BIL forgot his mother's birthday. He was unaware of my 'gift'. He attempted to get my support, and I proceeded to tell him the birthdays of his children, the birthdates of my brothers' and their wive's and their children. He looked at me and said "what the hell?"
I never did tell him the reason I can remember all of those dates. For about 10 years I have maintained a list of the birthdates, e-mail addresses, snail mail addresses, cell phone numbers, and landline numbers, of our extended family for my elderly father. (My dad is the only family member with a landline, and he has had the same cell phone number since 1997.)

(54,447 posts)Well, actually, it was my brother who invited us to our wedding. My wife-to-be and I were invited originally to HIS wedding, and he said if you will both be there, we can make it a double wedding. There were some logistics and paperwork to take care of, as my wife is from Germany and his wife is from Japan. But we managed. The wedding looked like a mini-version of the UN. My best man remarked that he realized that some people thought my wife and were "rushing into this"--after 8 years together! That was almost 34 years ago, so we have been together for 42 years come next year. At this point, the date is forgotten less often than our respective birthdays, and we never forget them.
