Breaking Poll Shows Clear Majority of WA State Voters Approve of Marriage Equality Law

Great news, I suspect if it's makes it to the ballot both Maine and WA will have ended marriage discrimination this fall!

(Seattle, WA) A new, independent, statewide poll finds that an overwhelming majority of voters approve of the Washington’s law extending civil marriage to same-sex couples.   Washington voters approve of the law by a 54-33% margin.  In addition to extraordinary support by Democrats (87%), the poll also found significant support among Independents, nearly mirroring the full poll, at 52-36%.

Next week, Washington United for Marriage expects opponents to submit more than enough signatures to put the existing law allowing committed same-sex couples to marry in Washington up for referendum in November. The poll was taken May 22-24 of 500 voters, with a margin of error of 4.4 percent.

“This poll shows that an overwhelming majority of Washington voters agree that their lesbian and gay friends, co-workers and family members should have the freedom to marry ,” said Zach Silk, WUM campaign manager. “Our opponents are out-of-step with Washington values, but thanks to their paid signature operation, they’ll turn in huge numbers and succeed in putting the law on November’s ballot.  And we know that what lies ahead is a campaign designed to frighten and confuse voters.”

The poll, conducted by Strategies 360 for the Associated Press, comes on the heels of President Obama’s endorsement marriage for same-sex couples.  Just one day after announcing his decision, the President arrived in Seattle, and on May 10th, told Washington voters that they, “…have the chance to make your voice heard on the issue of making sure that everybody… is treated fairly.”

is that the idiot fundies will never give up and admit that this is the actual will of the people.

I'd love to hope that we'd win the vote and it'd be over and done and right would prevail.

But they're still fighting Roe v. Wade 40 years later.

When it clearly becomes the will of the majority that gay marriage be legal, their new mantra will be that their minority rights are being discriminated against!
