Cinnamon fell asleep in a dumpster, officials said. Then he woke up at a dump in Fresno and ran away, workers watched him run up a hill, across the ridge and as he hid near a fence and was tracked down moments later.
"It involved crawling through some bushes and putting a tranquilizer dart in it," Fidler said.
Cinnamon wasn't hurt, but the tranquilizer put him asleep. The next time he wakes up, he'll be home; where he belongs.

When the call crackled across Fresno police radio, even officers were incredulous:
Report of a bear at Orange and North
But as patrol cars and pursuing reporters and photojournalists rolled in, they found it was true: There was a black bear sort of orangish-red, actually ambling near a ponding basin at the Orange Avenue dump in south Fresno.
There were witnesses.
Hes right in there, a dump worker shouted to Lt. Joe Gomez, as he pointed to some heavy brush along Orange Avenue.
Thats crazy, someone said to Gomez.
Yes, it is, laughed Gomez, who serves as the police spokesman and now appeared to be ad hoc leader of a hastily assembled bear hunting expedition.

(14,177 posts)I was busy thinking the bear was probably happy at the dump at least for a minute or two and it would be fun to pet a bear.

(6,843 posts)they go into torpor. It is different. Many solitary males will not go in for torpor until January and will be active very early. Females with cubs usually go early and come out late.
A bear in very poor condition will keep foraging. It is not a symptom of temperature like you are insinuating. It is dependent upon many factors, physical health being a very important one.
