it is Christmas day, be aware lines are still long, and some theaters were sold out for the matinee show.
If you plan to go, take that into account.
Oh and may the force be with you.

(38,958 posts)It was okay, but it wasn't as good as Kung Fu Panda. In my opinion, but everyone has their own tastes.

(31,464 posts)We bought tix online, reserved seating, and still wound up near the back. But that was okay, I could take it all in better. I'll go back mid-week and see it in 3D IMAX.
BTW, it is a good as they say. Most enjoyable movie experience I've had in years.

(23,156 posts)I may wait until the holidays are past so I don't have to compete with huge crowds. Lucky me, I'm retired and I can go midweek, which is what I usually choose.

(154,021 posts)A lot of the tickets were sold ahead of opening night online.
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)once, which will keep the theaters crowded for a while.

Neighbor and her daughter went to see "Joy" today.

(35,174 posts)last night. I thought it was really fun. It seems to me that the 3D tech has changed a bit? It seemed better than before, easier actually and I did actually enjoy the 3D. I may go back again with our other son if there is the opportunity.

(4,523 posts)The next Star Wars film will eschew CGI in favour of real locations and models wherever possible, according to Kathleen Kennedy, the film executive in charge of the sci-fi adventure.
The LucasFilm boss made the comments at a Star Wars convention, where she also revealed that composer John Williams would return for the upcoming JJ Abrams-directed Episode VII.
"The conversation we're having all the time now about Episode VII is how much CGI," Kennedy told fans at the Star Wars Celebration Europe convention in Essen, Germany. "We're looking at what the early Star Wars films did; they used real locations with special effects. So [for Episode VII] we're going to find some very cool locations, [and] we're going to end up using every single tool in the toolbox."

(35,174 posts)I know nothing about it except that it felt better and looked better. There was less of the odd feeling as things moved closer and your eye muscles had to adjust (or something). Anyway, I sure thought it was better looking that other 3D movies.

(38,726 posts)Now, I am a legit star wars fan. Loved the first one, saw it 7 times in the theaters. I have seen them all. even 1,2,3, a couple of times in the theaters...So much hype...Too much hype.
to me, parts were slow..(that is too me)..some parts were so, so. But I was expecting more, and my theater experience with what later became, "The New Hope" was exceptional, one of a kind movie going.

(6,592 posts)It kept me reasonably happy for 2+ hours, and I could see they were really trying to do right. It's hard to follow a major cultural event like the original.

(38,726 posts)Me too, Yes, I was reasonably happy for most of the time, and .."I could see they were really trying to do right"..
Like I said and you implied , the original was a great experience,.. this was a good movie experience (for me) but for me, it was not.."great"....(for me)

(25,725 posts)...we gave it a C+ and a C-.
it was just like 1977 again with a tad less heart and a little less believable. and yes we both saw it live in 1977. watched the 1977 trailer after we got home and that confirmed our suspician..same movie done a little less well.
bummer. cannot wait for episode 235 which i hear will be awesome.

JanMichael
(25,725 posts)...and both saw it in 1977 and 2015 the same way we did then no not a spoiler.
a spoiler would to say who dies and the last two minutes which i can do if you would like.
the fact that they used practically the same language in certain like scenes is simply put as the same movie but a little less interesting. hell most of them have been variations on the same themes like a burrito, soft taco, taco salad, tostida, etcetera. same ingredients folded or assembed differently but tasting the same.

(13,340 posts)The main heros journey is quite different. I thought it was pretty remarkable. And yeah, I was there in 1977. Saw the first 14 times in the theater.

(7,960 posts)I liked the original one but lost interest after the second film. This one was really good though. Great characters old & new. Harrison Ford can still pull off the action hero thing and I loved the new kids. Now I'm looking forward to the next one.

(8,159 posts)We went out to Christmas brunch and got to movie for 12:30 show. Theater almost empty.
After movie the lobby was packed so full it was difficult to get to the door to leave.
I really liked this one and fun to see how the actors aged.

(3,576 posts)We all loved it. I must admit I was skeptical after the Star Trek re-makes by JJ Abrams. He should stick to Star Wars and leave Trek alone. Great job by all on this installment of the story!
