In Milwaukee Post, Cardinal Dolan Authorized Paying Abusers

Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan of New York authorized payments of as much as $20,000 to sexually abusive priests as an incentive for them to agree to dismissal from the priesthood when he was the archbishop of Milwaukee.

Questioned at the time about the news that one particularly notorious pedophile cleric had been given a “payoff” to leave the priesthood, Cardinal Dolan, then the archbishop, responded that such an inference was “false, preposterous and unjust.”

But a document unearthed during bankruptcy proceedings for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and made public by victims’ advocates reveals that the archdiocese did make such payments to multiple accused priests to encourage them to seek dismissal, thereby allowing the church to remove them from the payroll.

A spokesman for the archdiocese confirmed on Wednesday that payments of as much as $20,000 were made to “a handful” of accused priests “as a motivation” not to contest being defrocked. The process, known as “laicization,” is a formal church juridical procedure that requires Vatican approval, and can take far longer if the priest objects.

Those in charge have no morals, ethics, Christian values or any other desirable characteristics.
They fight to deny a penny to the abused, but then do this?
Abusive priests should be defrocked and put in the stocks at the least!

1. This is the same Cardinal Dolan who lectures Obama on religious freedom.

I take it he thinks that religious freedom includes the right to pay off sexual predators.

Considering that he paid off sexual predators and presumably helped them get off free as birds to continue preying upon children, he should not be opening his mouth on ANY matter of morality, and certainly not about contraceptives.

He's a lowdown piece of dog shit for aiding and abetting pedophiles to keep abusing children. How anyone can listen to the Catholic Church prattle about morality after the things they have covered up is absolutely beyond me.

If he knew they were pedofiles why didn't Dolan turn them over to the police? What a piece of shit that man is!

To act all high and mighty over contraceptives. Not only should all of those priests be in jail, he should be joining them for aiding and abetting them.

I'm sure payoffs to abusive clerics would have found a way onto the 10 Commandments, too, but it was probably too much work to chisel that into the stone tablets.

apparently not a sin to pay off a pedophile so that he will quietly leave his victims behind.
