The way GOP candidates talk about public employees encourages violence against such public servants. When Cruz says what he will do to IRS workers (deport them) and makes other incendiary and violent comments it is practically criminal. All the GOP can do it foment hatred against people who work for government and serve the public. Other GOP candidates are no better.
These workers are American citizens too. And they pay taxes. To label them the enemy is disgusting. And a public who cheers such remarks is no better.

(20,591 posts)some offices that deal with the public have armed guards on site. This started with Reagan and has gotten worse. The state ogf Washington has state troopers for some offices.

(90,860 posts)...government is the enemy, that it fails at every turn, that it's corrupt -- those lies were and are self-fulfilling prophecies designed to destroy the government without the messy business of armed insurrection.
Some days I forget just how much I loathe the GOP. Then I drink my coffee and come fully awake.

(21,757 posts)it is part of their plan to make people hate the government
. unless THEY are in control of it all.
God forbid if that day ever comes
but we will see YUUUUUGE government if they do.

(8,225 posts)I do agree with the first part, making people hate government is the campaign. However once they take over, they cut budgets, lay off people, replace management wholesale, then set up programs to give the remaining funds away to the private sector as quickly as possible. This is my first hand experience.

(15,412 posts)we hired a man for a professional position in my agency. He was hired to write decisions, same thing I do. In the six months he was there he wrote 12 decisions, the same number I write in any given 2 WEEK period. And all of them had to be rewritten they were so bad.
I think he bought his own bullshit about government workers not doing any work. We fired him, of course.
And yes, we have several layers of security in our building. It's not just the GOP candidates who trash gov't employees, its Fox and Rush and that lot too. And yes, it started with Ronnie.

(5,364 posts)I'm finding out my fiancee is quite the little Ms. Fascist: She's a government employee but she's constantly bashing "government workers". It's like a thing with her: It's like everybody but her has poor work ethic and deserves to be fired. She's starting to constantly spout conservative anti-government rhetoric and has become quire smitten with none other than that fucking blowhard Christie. I try to tell her that it's just rhetoric the PTB use to divide and distract us from them robbing us blind and she totally scoffs at it no matter how tactful and clinical I am.
She was never political before. WTF happened?
I'm really worried.

(10,465 posts)I work for the Federal Government. At my Agency, we have assigned parking for Senior Executives (part of being in the Senior Executive Service is having your own parking spot). I happened to walk past a car in a Senior spot one morning and saw a bumper sticker that read "Government is not the solution, Government is the problem."
Let that sink in a minute. A government employee - one that has been there long enough to be a Senior Executive - saying that "government is the problem." If this person thinks that "government" is the problem, why doesn't he or she leave Federal Service? I guess it's the "other" government that's the problem. Not his job.
