All the Northeast Ohio Suburban Klansmen thought Timothy Loehmann was perfectly within his rights to gun down a minor who, from the looks of it, was one of 2-3 people at the Cudell Rec Center park that day.

It got so bad, the Plain Dealer suspended commentary from anything Tamir Rice-related in their paper.

What with the crazy the call to the police about someone with a gun in a playground and officer responding and seeing the (toy) gun, the situation would have been a tough case to convict in court (maybe at they could have tried for involuntary manslaughter).

However, since the caller/dispatcher set the stage for the police mindset of what to expect, I doubt that would have stuck either.

The officer should be fired though. He may avoid conviction but he is one horrible police officer.

I think not. It was the dispatcher that did not RELAY correct information to the cop from the caller. The person that called 911 stated it could be a toy gun. The dispatcher raised the threat level. Still, unless there was a real threat to others, the cops should have pulled back.

Here's the classic video of that old white guy taunting cops with an assault rifle right on a public street in Michigan, an open carry state. The cops patiently talked to him and eventually convinced him to put down his gun. No bullets were exchanged and they were exceedingly nice to him despite the verbal abuse he was heeping on them:

And then there's this open carry nutjob in fatigues who got the cops to back down even though he had been brandishing on school property:

The only thing that matters in these cases are the three little words that become a bad cop's get out of jail free card: "I felt threatened".

The cops in this case are murderers. Period. Wouldn't surprise me if they got their rocks off on it, too. Many in that field do.

I try to give the benefit of the doubt. I know cops deal with shit I'll never have to, but come on. Tape of as cop shooting a kid within seconds with not the slightest attempt to control or even assess the situation first. No possibility of attack on the officer like they claimed in Brown. No possibility of unintentional anciliary causes like they claimed in Garner or Gray. I mean this one was just no damn other option at all. I never had much faith in juries to begin with but hell this did not help.

The entire interaction, captured by a city-owned surveillance camera, lasted less than two seconds. Loehmann wrote that he shouted four times for Tamir to show his hands before he opened fire.

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office released three reports from national experts in police use of force that each found the boy's shooting was tragic but reasonable because the officers did not know Tamir's age or that the gun was fake. The experts also concluded that a reasonable officer responding to a report of a man with a gun would have considered Tamir's movements around his waist to pose a "threat" to their safety. They also concluded the use of deadly force would be legally appropriate.

So, move your hand wrong while black, get legally murdered.
