No link yet...breaking news.CNN - Rather than take a premature victory lap over winning the Presidency in 2016, John Ellis (Jeb) Bush chose instead to send a black cloud across the skies of his dwindling supporters. The " ! " from his failed bid for the Republican nomination...the sole "money shot" from what were probably very high-paid marketing geniuses on his staff...was quietly posted on eBay last night.
The post purports to originate from Jeb himself, although that is highly unlikely. "Own a piece of HIStory!" screams the ad, apparently an homage to the Michael Jackson album of the same name or perhaps just ignorance on Team Bush's part. "My dad bathed you in 1000 points of light and my brother kept you safe for eight years, unless you count that 9/11 thing, and I certainly don't! COUNT the days until the November election just like I counted those votes in Florida!"
The opening bid was $1.47 and in the last 24 hours has skyrocketed to $1.49. The last person to bid on the " ! " goes by the handle "I.M.Pop-E," which has led some to believe that Bush's own father is trying to save his son from complete humiliation.
Bidding closes this evening.

(1,782 posts)First I thought it was real -- why not sell your symbol, just to get attention? Then, at "I.M.Pop-E," I thought it must be Borowitz. Confusion with reality and confusion with Borowitz are two marks of great satire.

(18,837 posts)...no, I don't, but I think that's going to change in 2016.
I am a self-employed Web Designer and was an English Major in college, so I write a ton of "copy."
But I also write a lot of things like this, and I am humbled and delighted by the fact that I pretty much get the same reaction whenever I do.
I have a CreateSpace (Amazon self-publishing account). I never had a gift for writing novels. I don't know why...I know I have the ability to write well and entertain people...so I am thinking I may do a Dave Barry thing, a gonzo collection of random observations and semi-factual fantasies like I wrote here.
One of my favorite pieces I wrote to date was posted on DU in 2009, when I was "Amerigo Vespucci" (my hard drive died, I lost my User IDs and Passwords, including the one for DU, and didn't remember the email I used to sign up, so I became "Miles Archer" .
Anyway...I wrote this, and a blogger STOLE it and posted it as his own, and it ended up in the forum page of the Allman Brothers Website, and it went viral, and people were posting "WOW! I hope this is true!"
Here it is:
"It's a shame that Richard (Manuel) and Rick (Danko) can't be here to join us, but we know they will be there in spirit," Robertson told reporters. The void will be filled by session player Russell Kunkel on bass and frequent Rolling Stones collaborator Chuck Leavell on keyboards.
Addressing the rumor that Eric Clapton many make a surprise appearance, Helm replied "You never know. Eric's been a friend of the band for years. I'd be surprised if he missed this one.""
So maybe the time has come to write a book of short pieces like this.
Thanks again everyone for your kind comments,
