So my 75 year old Dad got hit with a Rick Scott voter purge gimmick.

He received a letter in the mail indicating that he needed to verify where he lived by filling out the enclosed form and mailing it back to the election office.

He did move last year to a new apartment, but when he updated his drivers license at the DL office, he clearly asked them to reflect it on his voter ID.

Here's the thing.... this is what Rick and his goons are hoping for... they are hoping that my elderly father who is a registered Democrat, fails to complete and return the form thus making this Born in America, 75 year old Vet, ineligible to vote on election day.

America---ya gotta love it.

I would think with the disenfranchisement, graft, persecution of the elderly, the young, of state employees and the destitute via his drug testing program, any reality where ricky there is not being continually violated with a wirebrush (anal: alright, urethral: even better) seems a bit off kilter.

Catharsis takes a lot of forms, picturing someone that has placed themselves firmly in the 'enemy' column in the grossest amount of physical discomfort works for some folks, better than acting on it at least.

Voter caging is a method of challenging the registration status of voters to potentially prevent them from voting in an election. It refers to the practice of sending direct mail to addressees on the voter rolls, compiling a list of addressees from which the mail is returned undelivered, and using that list to purge or challenge voters’ registrations on the grounds that the voters do not legally reside at registered addresses. This typically results in the voters' having their votes discarded or submitted through the use of provisional ballots requiring further registration confirmation.[1]

Doncha know, Eric's got important work to do, far more important than ensuring the integrity of the voting process, one of our most precious and critical rights as a democracy, and stopping fraudulent voting purges. He's busy with going after those true American scofflaws, medical marijuana users. People trying to manage their nausea, fatigue and pain of chronic/terminal illnesses by using a particular drug are far more dangerous to the fabric of our society than stopping blatant partisan voter fraud! Where're your priorities, man?

46. Prosecuted? Tim Griffin just denied it and was rewarded by being elected to congress
Fri Jun 1, 2012, 12:47 PM

Griffin was selected by House Republicans to serve on the Judiciary Committee, which had investigated the circumstances of his appointment as interim U.S. Attorney.

Special to the Arkansas Times
by Greg Palast (New York, London)

When Tim Griffin resigned his post as interim federal prosecutor a day after the BBC broadcast linking him to illegal "voter caging," Griffin insisted he did not know what "caging" was.

Griffin, currently the Republican candidate for Congress in Arkansas's Second District, said he only found out after the BBC report that "caging" is a term "used in the direct mail" business.

That's correct, Mr. Griffin: it's an address capture scheme which, when used against voters of color, is a federal crime.

Right here, printed above, is an email sent by Griffin with the subject line, "Caging" with lists attached of soldiers and homeless men whose votes the Republican National Committee wanted the Bush campaign to challenge.

So, if Griffin's name is listed as the author of the "caging" memo, how the heck could he not know what he was saying and sending?

But since the Governor or Secretary of State or County Registrar Of Voters
(which can all be partisan towards one party) sent it, this is considered perfectly legal.
It is under the guise of cleaning up voter rolls of people who may have died,
moved out of the area or state or stationed outside the area or state.

Of course there is nothing stopping the Governor, SoS or the ROV from sharing
this information with their partisan party.

They usually send out these notices to people who are registered, but have not
voted in the last (x) elections.

It affects the elderly (death), College students (attend schools outside their
voting district), and Military Personnel (Soldiers stations outside their voting
district), disproportionately.

We are supposedly as Americans presumed to be innocent and the burden of proof falls upon the state.... It would seem they have to prove people are ineligble to vote, not just say they are and lay the task of having to prove eligibility upon the person.. I would think a few civil suits could be brought on those ground alone..

The only reason that republicans think that Democrats practice voter fraud is transference of republican practices onto Dems.

It's a pain in the ass to fight for the right to vote, but then it was a pain in the ass to fight WWII or Korea so that everyone could vote.

The truth seems to be, even an old Vet can never stop fighting for the right to vote.

Dem leadership types have an irritating habit of waiting for republicans to put this stuff in place and then they file lawsuits.. In the meantime, people are cut from registration lists, made to jump through flaming hoops to vote, or just give up because they often find out too late to act themselves.

We KNOW this is how republicans "win" elections, and yet our leadership always seems startled when they do it. They are willing to spend bazillions on lawsuits that take years to settle, and while they are doing that, republicans are putting their next plan into action.

Republicans tell us over and over , what they have planned, and while the ordinary people seem to get it, the leadership somehow believes that lawsuits will scare them into NOT doing it.

Elections are funny things. When someone loses because there was cheating going on, it's too late for them to be an effective change-mechanism, since they are out of office then...and if they squeak by and win, they push it all aside and forget about changes that need to be made for next time.

Republicans think a generation ahead, and I'm sure they already have their next thing in the works.

When I tried to inform him how our democracy was being utterly undermined by election fraud by the republicans he countered that Chicago has a lengthy history of the dead voting for Democrats. His position was that election fraud was equally rampant. I could not get him to understand the difference between voter fraud and election fraud and naturally he accepted the two as being the same. When pressed he simply refused to accept my assertion that less than a dozen cases of actual voter fraud are prosecuted for each election cycle, that these fraudulent votes are statistically unable to sway any election. To him, facts were only 'my facts' vs 'his facts' and mine were the ones distorted!
