Got 1 number on 1, not the PB though. Better than usual

Clearly it was rigged. Whether anyone won or not!

I should have gone out to buy that ticket.

10. I didn't win either.

I suppose I should have bought a Powerball ticket. I have enough problems without having to deal with hundreds of millions of dollars in cash.

If I did have matching numbers, even if there were several tickets sold that won part of the jackpot, nobody outsode of my family and attorney and broker would know about it. (My broker would have shat in his pants. We don't have a huge portfolio, but you would have seen $$ in his eyes.)

12. i think there are some states where you can't stay anonymous

i would rather win maybe a couple million or so and stay anonymous than win 100m and my name made public for it.

13. In my state it is public information.

Some states don't reveal names, others allow LLCs to redeem the winning ticket. I used to work for a PR firm with the lottery as a client. We always recommended that the Powerball winners do the news conference so that the media got what they wanted instead of camping out in their driveway.

You are right about winning a much smaller amount. It would still be life changing money without national attention.

I am amazed that the jackpot was not won. I wonder what the odds of that were?

14. I read earlier that only 75% of all possible combinations were picked.

It was a couple hours before the drawing, so that number may be slightly higher.

17. i just looked it up, there are very few states you can remain anonymous

if i wanted to play and lived near any of these states i would probably buy a ticket from there .

not too surprised if nobody won since powerball was 13 and if people use birthday months none of those would have won.

19. When I was involved with the lottery business,

the jackpots were much lower and did not attract this kind of attention. However, I am pretty sure that the vast majority of tickets sold were 'quick picks' and not chosen numbers. I always told people to not play special numbers. I told them that the time they did not buy a ticket with their numbers is when they would be selected.

11. I remember once reading a rather convinving explanation

of why you stood a better chance of winning if you did not buy a ticket than if you did buy one.

15. I've heard stories about people finding winning tickets that had been thrown away.

Other than that, I don't see how that is possible. I'm pretty sure the majority of winners are the people who actually purchased the ticket.

34. That's not actually true.

Your odds of winning if you don't buy a ticket is 0.

Your odds of winning if you do buy a ticket are very small...but far above zero.

It just went up to 1.3 billion. I may break my usual protocol and buy $20 for 10 numbers this time around.

On one of my 5 quick picks, fwiw. No trip to Tahiti here....

On edit: Apparently, the powerball number is worth $4.

I thought it took at least four hours after the drawing to declare if there's a winner or not.

Never done it in my life.

25. Ask for a Powerball quickpick a d give them $2.

The machine will generate random numbers. There is zero reason to buy more than one ticket, or maybe even one, but there is the slight chance that your numbers will come up.

31. I think I bought a Powerball ticket last summer.

I really don't bother with it much. As I wrote before, this jackpot is something that could ruin the family(s) who win.

(I personally know a family who are billionaires. My dad worked for the fily business years ago. I recently read about how a Minnesota Viking player went to a restaurant table full of young people and offered to pay their bill if his family could have their table. One of the young men refused, but gave up their table anyway. His grandfather is a billionaire.

33. I'd use the money for fighting for climate change legislation and for helping war victims

That would feel great. I have zero concern that I would change my moral outlook, too old for that.
