Netflix Founder Drops $100 Million to Join Billionaire Crusade to Privatize Our Public Schools

Just be aware when you pay your NEXFLIX bill you are supporting rightwingnuts trying to Privatize our schools.

The purses of the privatization movement are bursting with cash.

There’s more evidence that the push to privatize traditional public schools across America is a pet project of Silicon Valley’s billionaire boy’s club.

On Tuesday, Netflix founder and CEO Reed Hastings announced on Facebook that he was creating a $100 million foundation to fund education, which mostly means bankrolling the charter school industry.

“I’m thrilled to announce that I’m funding a new $100m philanthropic fund for education, creatively named the Hastings Fund, through the Silicon Valley Community Foundation,” he wrote. “Neerav Kingsland is the CEO of this fund, and will donate these funds in the best way possible for kids’ education.

This guy has been interested in education for a long time and while in the past he has been a champion for charter schools the fund he dropped 100 mill on gave its first two donations to

While its first two grants are going to the United Negro College Fund and the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley to support college education of black and Latino youth

Public schools are not the end all be all. They are failing many minority communities. Charters might not be the answer but at least this guy is using a good chunk of his money to try to help.

I will happily keep using netflix

4. If his foundation is actually just funding charter schools, I'd say let him throw away that money.

But if this just means more lobbying to strangle public schools, fuck him sideways.

progressive New Orleans. Yeah right! The donations to hispanic and black orgs are just to get the Obama-Castro brothers yuppy crowd inline. Unfortunately for them, these guys aren't reflective of majority of people in these communities.

Also it is clear liberals are in open rebellion against the neoliberal con and their candidates, so they are throwing money down a shithole at this point.

I had bought two TV's with the apps installed and tried to install more but the choice was very limited. I decided to save money on the next TV and buy one that I could use Roku with. I fought it because of the need for two remote controls but the good out weighs the convience.

I'm pretty sure they are still doing great work so I don't understand why Alternet is claiming this is a bad thing.

they claim charter schools are. The problem with a charter school financier supporting them is that it is a way to buy off people who are otherwise criticize them. Charters have been a disaster for the children of Chicago. BLM fights them and the the NAACP often says nothing. Another example of hush money would be when Michael Skreli donated to Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders understood it was hush money and donated it to charity. These contributions represent hush money.

larger choice. Never mind Amazon that has the screwed up mix of Prime free, rent and buy on the same web page. You just pay for the unit about $50 and up to around $90 to $100. Then subscribe to the apps, you want. It even has PBS free and Free Speech TV free.
