I have been lurking here for years, never remembering what my password or user name was. I am now feeling a bit nutty and want to ask a question . I probably have this in the wrong place, so I will apologize now. Newty said that Palestinians were "invented," what is he talking about? I did about a second of research, and it seems to me, that different this region has been called Palestine, or versions of that name, since nearly the beginning of time. I don't want this to be about the Israeli/Palestinian relationships, but I want to understand what this "historian" is saying. I realize that he is sending out a dog whistle to the right wing christian folks, but he must, be it may only be in his mind, has a reason. (Also, I use the term historian very, very, very loosely when applied to him. I've been married for 20 years to my husband, who just happened to have his BA in history...and Newty is no historian)

(45,851 posts)Newt basically has the attention span of a spider monkey on crack and that thing that most of us have that keeps us from saying the stupid stuff that runs through our minds all the time out loud most of the time is either broken or he never had one to start with.
He's a totally unattractive, better read male version of Sarah Palin, what he says is basically a smoother word salad with a bigger vocabulary that he actually somewhat understands.
Newt is a stupid person's idea of what a smart person sounds like.
ETA: This says it better than I can; Krugman is from Trantor; Gingrich ain't.

(12,287 posts)is reversing what Iran has said when it said that Israel doesn't exist (which repubs interpete as saying that they want to wipe out Israel). Anyway, on this I think he is saying that the Palestinians don't have a country - therefore don't really exist. He's backward of course - it's the Israeli's that don't have a country and was given land for their "country" by treaty. The Palestinians have always been there.
Ok, where is the spell check here?
