Her career might not be over, but it might be in her best interest to take an extended

A neurology resident, employed by the Jackson Health System, has been placed on administrative leave after a controversial video involving an Uber driver went viral.
According to a statement from Jackson Health, Dr. Anjali Ramkissoon, a fourth-year resident, has been placed on leave, effective immediately, and removed from all clinical duties.
The statement also says an internal investigation has been launched, and the outcome will determine whether any disciplinary action will be taken.
The incident reportedly started when Ramkissoon got into an Uber vehicle without a reservation and refused to get out.

A doctor for Jackson Health System has been placed on administrative leave after a YouTube video of her hitting and screaming profanities at an Uber driver went viral, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed in a statement.
Anjali Ramkissoon, a fourth-year neurology resident, was removed from all clinical duties.
Jackson has launched an internal investigation, the statement reads. The outcome of the investigation will determine whether any disciplinary action will be taken, up to and including termination.
The video of Sundays incident in the Brickell area was posted Jan. 19 by someone who uses the YouTube account Juan Cinco. It had been viewed more than 500,000 times by Thursday evening. In the video, Ramkissoon, wearing short white shorts and a long-sleeved orange shirt, can be seen hitting an Uber driver in the face.

But that still doesn't give her carte blanc to act like this and it doesn't mean she shouldn't face any consequences or accountabilty for it. The vast majority of residents and doctors would NOT act like this no matter how much stress they're under. And a stressful job does not give you the right to treat people and property this way.

Working extremely hard (and I agree that she did, indeed, work hard in a very stressful occupation to get where she is) does NOT mean that you aren't or can't be spoiled or entitled, and that's exactly what she is. A drinking problem isn't just addiction to alcohol, some people have drastic personality changes when they drink even if it's only 3-4 drinks. Hubby's one of them. He doesn't touch the stuff because he doesn't like what it does to him. 21 yrs + he's avoided it.
A drinking problem is when something detrimental happens when you drink. Whether its outward behavior, depression, addiction or physical. You have a problem with alcohol.

I daresay most people here attacking her have, once or twice in their lives, lost their shit and acted like an entitled ass. You're just lucky no one videotaped it an put it online for the two minute shame.
I'm not defending what she did. But she didn't kill anyone or commit sexual assault. She lost her shit. That's not something we want doctors doing, but a fourth year resident is under enormous stress and gets very little sleep and, snarky riposte aside, no, very few people work as hard as someone at that stage of a medical career. She has skills that can save lives and that took years and a fortune to develop. If we start destroying peoples' entire careers every time they get caught doing something stupid or losing their shit, we're going to have a hell of a society.
Again, if you can honestly say you've never acted in a way that would be embarrassing as hell if posted to the web, go ahead and demand her entire career be sacrificed for one breakdown. You're living in a fantasy world.

People are delusional. Almost no one I know hits the age of 30 without doing something that would make the internet hate them if they were unlucky enough to be filmed doing it. Of course, most people have selective memory and of course anyone can say anything they like on the internet, so I am sure DU is 99% full of people who have never lost their shit and made an ass of themselves in public. Of course. Lol.
And I'm sure no one you know or care about has ever acted like an ass either.
I know it's futile. The schadenfreude of getting to express hatred and derision toward a privileged person -- a pretty young doctor -- is just too strong. It's an industry online anymore, this shaming culture. It's like the Scarlet Letter reborn. The Chinese call it "human flesh search engine." It's mob mentality.

Most people, even when drunk, would not hit and kick and threaten and intimidate others, scream profane demands at them to get what they want, deliberately destroy property all while saying that they were small and didn't weigh much so they can do what they want, and then just walk away expecting to face no consequences or accountabilty. (5,101 posts)What she did was stupid. Calling for her career to be over is just about equally stupid. She should have to make restitution to the Uber driver for damages and double it for punitive measure. She should pay a fine for drunk and disorderly and causing a public disturbance to the city. Her employer should put her on some form of probation with the understanding that a second incident will result in her dismissal. Uber should permanently revoke her account.
Let the punishment actually fit the crime. What she did was stupid and she should have to suffer some, but ending her career over that? Disproportionate.
