Advise to DUers: Stay off the DU Primaries Forum

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by NYC Liberal (a host of the General Discussion forum).

If you haven't posted there yet, don't.

I did my first post today. And right now, I'm not sure whether I'm an antisemitic, communist piece of shit, or a wingnut infiltrator who hates humans and eats kittens.

I can't wait until this election is over. The DU Primaries Forum seems to be a tremendously hate-filled place where otherwise sane Democrats have lost their minds. Any remark or response you post is immediately twisted and used to "prove" that you are either for or against Bernie/Hillary/Whoever. Or perhaps I should say Hillary/Bernie/Whoever. After all, putting someone's name first matters.

My congratulations and best wishes to Skinner et.al. for recognizing that a Primaries Forum was needed. It has isolated a "poisonous strain" from the rest of DU. We all have pockets of hatred within ourselves. In this case, Isolation was a wise, civilized, Democratic idea.

Note that Republicans attacked the faith of Obama, who sings Amazing Grace while giving very Christian eulogies and that they trashed the Christianity of Jimmy Carter, Born Again Jimmy they went after with a gusto bordering on insanity.

So where is the candidate they won't attack with idiotic tropes?
And did it really matter that they called Obama a Kenyan Muslim Marxist? He got elected twice.

So if they attack actual Christians by saying they are Muslims is there any reason to try to pick a candidate they won't denigrate using religion? Or accusations of murder? They say anything. About anyone.

you meant this post http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1251&pid=1166705

and NOT the OP you are replying to.

Winning the election is kind of important though. It's rather naive to think the S-word and by implication the C-word are not going to be played.

That's enough to stop me from supporting Bernie. I do NOT think my party can afford to tie itself to the S-word.

It does though also remind me of what the Hillary camp did in 2008. Circulated a bunch of rightwing attacks at Obama - as a reason to support Clinton. Truly, I was afraid that the racism of this country would hurt us down-ticket in 2008. And I was wrong about that. In reality, it was my guy Edwards who would have imploded in the general, having been exposed as a schmuck.

As a reader more than a writer, I'd say this forum is just as bad.

And your definition of "sane Democrats (who) have lost their minds" is definitely much more narrow than mine.

But you go around calling Sanders a commie Jew, then you'll get what's coming to you.

I don't ever recall the ongoing venom that is taking place in that forum.

There has, of course, been some ugliness in DU General Discussion. But never to the degree that can be witnessed today in the DU Primary Forum.

Your observation that this forum is "just as bad" seems misguided to me. Given the thousands of threads here, there are of course some in which people throw garbage at each other. However, the same can't be said of the Primary Forum in which most threads turn into shit fights in the monkey house.

I don't know if I've posted there or not. I usually just bring up latest threads and post in threads that interest me. I really haven't paid attention where the threads are located but I guess I need to start watching because I somehow posted in a Hillary group thread and got an email telling me I was banned from the group? (didn't know there was one). Someone had posted a list of endorsements she had gotten from other politicians so I said: But she's not the "establishment" candidate, right? lol I thought it was funny but evidently they didn't.

Posters are "classified" and isolated into exclusive Bernie and Hillary groups here on the basis of some political obsessive's opinion and are thereafter not permitted to post across groups. Thus there is no debate, no rebuttal. So I spend most of my time in grown-up places such as huff post and facebook where such division nonsense is not allowed to occur.

What I've posted here refers to the DU Primary Forum where people spend their days throwing dung at each other.

Please don't judge all of Democratic Underground by that forum, or by forums that are dedicated only to Hillary, or only to Bernie.

There ain't no "classifications" here in General Discussion. Stick around for a while and stay out of the "exclusive" clubs.

I have no problem with my OP to which you've provided a link. My problem is with the far too many accusations and displays of hatred it produced. I find it intriguing that you decided to cause the shit from that forum to overflow into this relatively sane forum. Your doing so serves to make my point regarding the fanaticism that dwells over there.

NOT

Seems to me to be a place for people to argue with each other.

I'm a Bernie Sanders supporter and will vote for him in the primaries, and definitely in the general election... BUT!!!!! If Hillary wins the nomination, I will gladly vote for a person who absolutely... ABSOLUTELY!!!! deserves our respect. She doesn't represent me EXACTLY as much as Bernie does, but she will be my candidate come the general election if she does, indeed, win the nomination. I just don't think she will.

Mon Feb 8, 2016, 09:30 AM
Feb 2016

I posted a similar question in April 2015, in fact, and I most certainly was not calling Sanders "a commie Jew." Neither is Cyrano.

Why is the question off limits? Republicans will absolutely attack him in exactly that way, either directly or via dog whistles, and it's naive to imagine that they won't. Likewise, it's foolish to pretend that a dignified silence will be a sufficient response those idiotic accusations.

Sanders' supporters post hateful, vitriolic attacks on Clinton day in and day out, eagerly doing the GOPs dirty work for them, but that's ok for some reason--even on DU's front page. But when someone questions Sanders' readiness to withstand the forthcoming GOP attack, it's declared unacceptable.

And before anyone objects that the attacks on Sanders are baseless or irrelevantly personal, we should recall that Sanders' supporters have already cited Whitewater, Vince Foster & Monica Lewinsky as problems that Clinton must address.

In short, asking about a near-certain GOP tactic is absolutely not the same as calling Sanders "a commie Jew."

Thanks for taking the time to read my post in that forum, and thanks for recognizing it for what it was: It's an attack the Republicans will most certainly use against Bernie if he is our nominee.

Many of the responses over there were just unanswerable. When someone says "You eat dog shit," it's impossible to prove that you don't. ("Proving a negative, etc.&quot

Some of them have not let up and have followed me over here to make their grievances known to all. And to make sure that everyone knows that "Cyrano eats Jewish babies."

I will never again post on that forum. Too many DUers who post there seem to have lost any and all sense of reality.

71. "So when Republicans call Bernie a "Communist Jew,"
Mon Feb 8, 2016, 01:51 AM
Feb 2016

what do we do?

If Bernie is our candidate, you just know that "Communist Jew" will be a major weapon in their arsenal of sleaze and hatred.

They'll be direct about the Communist part and label him as a "Marxist," "Stalinist," "Totalitarian," "Anti-American," "Weirdo," etc.

They'll have to be more subtle with the "Jew" part and use stuff like "New York values," "He's from Brooklyn," plus a whole new mountain of antisemitic slurs that we can't even begin to imagine. They are masters at labeling someone "The Other."

So your first post in GDP was about Sanders being labeled a communist Jew by the other party and how we deal with it? And then you had some backlash.

Surprise, surprise!

You could have had your first post in GDP about the thousands, tens of thousands of children that have been killed by cluster bombs or during the invasion of Iraq, but instead you went right for the Communist Jew and had some push back and then run to this forum to complain.

Doubt you even understand why your post was offensive.
