She's promoting herself as the pragmatic, realist, who will reach across the aisle and get things done. But on January 21st, her Presidency will get torpedoed. She'll prove from Day 1 that she cannot accomplish the singular task she's been elected to do: put a liberal (woman, minority, etc..) on the SCOTUS.

(5,252 posts)I have no illusions about Bernie. He's even said the following: "They won't like me." and "It's going to take a Political Revolution." which means, we will have to clean house. Moreover, Hillary and the media are painting him as an idealist who has ridiculous expectations and won't accomplish any thing.
I've said all along, neither are going to get didly-poo with this obstructionist congress. But it's Hillary and her supporters who live in a bubble - who have built up this myth around her ability to get things done. Well, if she gets elected, your impenetrable bubble will burst on Day 1.
If Hillary gets elected, Republicans will pick Scalia's replacement.

Obama getting his nomination confirmed is a big deal to all of us. It takes the majority away from the radical right until the next vacancy. That is grounds enough to hope it takes place ASAP.

(5,252 posts)Obama's probability is above 0 (we'll have to ask Nate Silver to do the math) and greater than Clinton's.
IMO Obama's chance is 0.005

(54,295 posts)Mitch McTurtle may not be up for re-election, but several of his republican cohorts are, and some of them are in swing states where being an asshole on the SCOTUS confirmation can be tossed in their faces on a daily basis by a Democratic challenger. This is Russ Feingold's golden ticket back into the Senate, not that I thought his chances weren't already pretty good to take his seat back.If dolts like Angle in Nevada try again for seats they already lost, even taking the position against holding nomination hearings could sink their chances in the General Election if a weak Republican nominee guarantees Democratic coattails. Seeing as how ALL potential Republican nominees except Kasich are basket cases, only his nomination would cause me any unrest.
