Here in Minnesota, there's one that could be flipped from Republican to Democrat. Our 2nd Congressional District seat is open, due to the Republican Jon Kline retiring. There's a field of GOP candidates vying in the primary race, but just one Democrat, Angie Craig, who stands alone, after other potential candidates dropped out. She has been endorsed by Keith Ellison and Al Franken and will almost certainly be the Democratic candidate in the general election.
Minnesota DFLers, including me, will be actively supporting Craig. If we can take back that district, it will be a big coup for the party.
So, look around your state. Are there open seats or seats held by a Republican who could be defeated? Who's running for that seat as a Democrat? Is there something you can do to help the Democrat win?
These are questions that voters in all states should be asking themselves. Making progress to build a majority in the House should be a top priority for Democrats this year. We won't get that majority in 2016, probably, but we can move in that direction. Check out your state. Are there opportunities to flip a House seat where you are? If so, that's a great goal to work for.

(151,210 posts)With hard work, flipping can be done. It doesn't always work, but it's certainly worth the effort. However, that district already has a Democratic member. I'd focus on some other district, frankly.

(8,818 posts)My district is gerrymandered, and I'm not sure how the courts will figure in changing it. When we first moved here, we had a Democrat in the office, Tom Perriello, but since it's been Robert Hurt, who's not running again. He's been a Republican tool and neither he/his office has yet to answer my pointed question, asked several times, "You've voted against the ACA every time, so please tell me, what is your alternative plan?"

(151,210 posts)be a strong Democratic candidate in every House election. We won't win them all, by any means, but there's no excuse for not trying, in my opinion.
If I lived in one of those districts that seemed impossible for a Democrat and nobody ran, I would run myself. I do not believe that any Republican seat should go uncontested.
Fortunately, my district has a superb representative, Betty McCollum.

(151,210 posts)is not a requirement. Those non-resident candidates never succeed, frankly. I'll be working to elect the Democrat in District 2.

(10,721 posts)Reid Ribble wants to "spend more time with his family." I'd LOVE to know what the translation of that phrase is in this case, but who cares, he's leaving.
We have several people interested, Penny Bernard Schaber is my favorite dem at this point.
