The people's decision

What gets my wick is when Republicans hammer away the following line:
'The people (in the 2016 GE) must decide the next Supreme Court appointment.'

The people HAVE decided, through the election of Obama in 2012, thereby investing him with authority to make presidential decisions for the next 4 years
-- which includes making Supreme Court appointments.

This happened in East TX Bush country and it was approved by the 0.001% behind the BFEE (among others) who have decided that the possibility of a President Sanders must be guarded against.

To that end they are setting the stage for a repeat of 2000; only this time, they are aiming for a "permanent solution" and need to deadlock the Supremes. As it was clear that Scalia would rat them out because he was so honorable and lovable, not only did he have to go, but he was the perfect trigger for their plan.

This time the deadlock will occur against a backdrop, not of Brooks Brothers suit clad operatives, but of the right wing militia taking over federal facilities around the country.

The rudderless Federal government will be unable to react - paralyzed with lack of a clear mandate for any leader; this vacuum provides the window of opportunity for Ted Cruz to declare that he won the election. His first, immediate act being to declare martial law and mobilize the National Guard to "deal with the crisis".

Martial law will become the new normal as General President For Life Cruz is coronated.

That is a dark fantasy. What is real, however, is that the US really is special. We are the ONLY Presidential democracy that has survived any length of time without devolving into a military dictatorship.*

*Factoid that may or may not be absolutely true which I picked up in college class on fascism.
