I got a letter to my paper today...the writer said LaVoy "Blue Tarp Man" Finicum wasn't reaching for a gun. Rather, he was unjustifiably shot by the police and was reaching down to put his hand over the entry wound.
All together now...BULL SHIT!

(7,512 posts)You don't just stand there and look down at your wound. This isn't Hollywood where a dramatic pause for the wounded hero is exaggerated. This is real life and in real life, once you are shot, you drop.

This should really be made by the Coen brothers.

(39,319 posts)but a real movie, maybe in Panavision would be great a la Tarantino "The Hateful 8".

(46,344 posts)He completely botched the actual history behind JFK's murder, Jim Garrison's courtroom farce and of course blamed "the Jews" for critical comments of his "history" show.

(65,159 posts)As a pure movie watching experience, JFK is ok. There are things you'll have to either take witha grain of salt, or ignore entirely from a historical perspective. But, just watching it as a movie, i rather liked it.

(45,319 posts)It's about Garrison, and Garrison's mindset and point of view serve as stand in for the national qualms and questions about the death of JFK. Yes, the film is called 'JFK' but very obviously JFK is the central character, it's not a film about him, his life, his day when he was shot. It's about Garrison trying to come to terms with the event.
The film never even claims to be showing 'what really happened' it talks about what Garrison thought and how he got to that conclusion.
Anyone telling you it is all wrong or made up needs prove to you that Jim Garrison did not exist. The film is about him. Not about JFK.
A film about a character who thinks the world is flat is not necessarily a film which is stating 'the world is flat'. That seems obvious to me.

(7,512 posts)By then it will have evolved to, he looked down at his wound, looked back up at the murderous cop, yelled Freedom! at him before the cop shoots him again.

(20,002 posts)simply get out of his truck and give himself up at the first roadblock where he sat for a long time--like any sane person who valued their life would do?

Then gets out of the truck after ramming his truck into a snowbank as he attempted to go around the second roadblock.
No one with any sense gets out of the car during a stop unless the LEOs tell you to. Then he reaches into his jacket . . . come on, he may as well have just asked to get shot.

(50,562 posts)IIRC it was very poetic; he talked about getting up in the morning, going outside and feeling the soft breezes of freedom blowing across his face. He could not imagine any other way of life, so he vowed the police would never take him alive.
The only way I can reconcile Finicum's actions with reality is, when he came to the first roadblock, he decided to just drive around it and disappear into the fading sunset. (Please disregard him being on a northbound road. This is Beauty, not Reality.) Unfortunately for him, the cops established the second roadblock in an area where the snow alongside the road was too deep to drive through; when the truck he had stolen came to rest in a deep drift, he lost his reason to live.
There's no conspiracy here, my young friends; Mr. Robert LaVoy Finicum, hero of the unpatriotic "patriot" movement, committed suicide.
