Dear White Progressives, "", Regards, A Black Woman

http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/2/29/1493709/-Dear-White-Progressives-Regards-A-Black-Woman

By Bravenak

This is Morehouse. An HBCU. Nice to see you guys there.

Hi There.
You seem very angry.

I notice a lot of you are very outraged at black voters and their voting habits. I understand the anger, the fear, the confusion.. Although I do not have to explain anything, I feel like explaining the power of the black vote and help you understand.

Black voters are finding our voices and recognizing our power. We know that we CAN make or break a campaign. Therefore, candidates need to do more than just generic campaigning, focusing on things that white progressives want to focus on, while ignoring "wedge" issues or issues we care about.

We are not the ones making demands upon his supporters to do as we do, or even explain why they do as they do. We are not telling you what’s best for you. I hope you know that we are not taking anything from you by discussing the power of our collective vote and voices.

Some feel like they are losing power. That we are gaining it at their expense. Well, I have to tell you, quite franlky, that that power should have NEVER rested solely in their hands in the first place, at OUR expense.

The nation will not get any whiter. We will not go in reverse. We have lived forever in an uneven power structure and we will take our share of it. Things need to be fair. You will get used to it, as we have. The world is not ending.

Do you think we like living in a nation where white people have so much power over us? That we do not feel rage? Impotent rage? We must gather together and use our power collectively in order for us to have any opportunity to progress. To get to where YOU are.

All you are dealing with is a very small taste of what we deal with everyday.

And isn't this an oh so obvious attempt to do an "end around" to bypass said timeout? I would like to see a bit more respect for the rules around here than that.

7. Jury results on the OP
Tue Mar 1, 2016, 06:05 PM
Mar 2016

On Tue Mar 1, 2016, 03:34 PM an alert was sent on the following post:

Dear White Progressives, "", Regards, A Black Woman
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027650195

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

Poster is on a timeout and trying to circumvent the rules by having another person post for them on DU. Rules are rules, if you are suspended you should wait until you can come back.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Tue Mar 1, 2016, 03:42 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: What's good for Bernie folks is good for Hillary supporters. Posts by banned( not just on time-out) Bernie people have been re-posted here and they were allowed to stay. Also this article is on the kos site, so it's highly likely this OP was done independently and not on the instructions of bravenak. It is in the rules to re-post article from kos.

Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I was going to hide it, but I want people to WITNESS the divisiveness of Hilary AND her supporters. That OP is pure BS and everyone should see it so they KNOW how Hillary and her supporters USE race in such awful ways to attack her opponents. Same as last time.

Leaving it as exhibit #1 of why so many AAs are turning away from Hillary.

Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: a new game, and it stinks

Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I would vote to hide if there were some proof this individual is fronting for someone on a TO. Can admin verify this and take action? I can't vote to hide without some evidence, but admin should be able to sort it out since it's against the TOS to do that. Sorry

Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Stop being an alert nanny!

If MrWendle wants to make an OP and attribute it to Bravenak that is MrWendle's option.
The altered OP is NOT disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate in any way.
One might even say it was quite constrained given the history of the topic being discussed.

So I repeat: Stop being an alert nanny!

Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Tough tiddy, alerter. Mr Wendel is not on timeout. Anyway, as a quick check, I looked at Bravenak's last 2 hidden posts carefully, including context and all that, and they were absolute miscarriages of justice and an abomination of the jury system. (PS generally I find Bravenak annoying, and I'm a white male BernieBro, but still I know what blatantly bad hides are). I'll give the post a REC when I'm done with jury duty.

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

14. I still hate statements like that
Tue Mar 1, 2016, 06:45 PM
Mar 2016

"white people have so much power over us".

Because for the most part, there is no such thing as "white people" or "us".

Powerful people have power. I am not sure if even political power means anything more than economic power. For an average person the people who have power over him/her are not some group of voters or politicians, but really their employers, their supervisors.

Does a mayor have power? A governor? A senator? I suppose, but many of the places where I have lived, I could not tell you who the mayor was or even remember the Governor. As a white person, I have had very little power over anybody.

I guess that there can be an "us" when all, or most, of "us" agree on something. Like most black people agree about voting Democrat in an election. But not all. Some people I talked to in door to door campaigns said they were not voting. Another did not want to take a yard sign at his very strategically located house. So agreement is hardly universal.

I doubt if it bothered us white guys to be part of a black crowd on caucus day in 2008. That's the question - are we gonna be divided, with white people on one side and black people on another? If so, why? Why the divide? I can understand that in 2008, when black people were united in wanting to elect a black President. I can also understand one of my black friends (actually my only one, and I barely know her. I sent her a friend request because she worked for the state democratic party, and now she has a different job and we have never even met.) She is a Hillary supporter. I think a part of that support though, comes from her gender, not so much because of her race.

The point missing in this essay is that if black people are asserting their power by helping to nominate Hillary against white people. That to a very large degree, they are asserting their power and using it to help maintain the power of the oligarchy. As in - What's the matter with Kansas?

16. The term "white people" is pretty vague
Tue Mar 1, 2016, 07:28 PM
Mar 2016

What's meant by it is the nexus between the white power establishment and the general ignorance of powerless whites in the middle class over just how abused and oppressed the minority community is by the white establishment, using their tools in the white middle class.

It's a mouth full, so the short hand term "white people" gets used... with the added bonus of making progressive whites feel just a little be more alienated from the cause of racial justice.

And further their empowerment?

That's interesting. What exactly about her history leads you to that conclusion?

It's a great discussion to have.

Stack 'em up.

Why Hillary and not Sanders from your particular black perspective?

We're going to have to vote together to beat Trump. Extra credit if you can find some common ground.

and the families of the millions of brown people that her good friend, Henry Kissinger (the world's worst living mass-murderer), has murdered got a vote in US elections, the outcome would have been different.

American exceptionalism runs strong in the US.

before Sanders was even a candidate, so the results aren't surprising or different from what everyone was expecting.

And the vast majority of white progressives aren't angry at all, or even know or care about the strawman the OP sets up. If you go off the angry rantings of Internet posts, you're likely to get a pretty skewed view of any demographic.

I get the impression that the OP believes in a white progressive boogie man that doesn't exist.

Wed Mar 2, 2016, 11:51 AM

One of the reasons HRC has been doing extremely well is because of her support among African-American voters. This hasn't been sitting well with some of the white 'progressives' who hate HRC with a passion.

So no, it's not a strawman by Bravenak.
