In a state that hasn't voted for the democrats in over 50 years.
Oh well Trump brags about being able to win New York, I suppose he's got that hasn't he??

(3,473 posts)There isn't any real substance there. And you just repeating it over and over again is like the crazy person standing on the sidewalk yelling at everyone passing by, saying the same thing over and over again. After awhile, nobody is hearing what you're saying ... and everyone starts questioning your sanity.

Oh, don't worry, we'll vote for Hillary (in the GE) if we HAVE to...

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
I remember this pic when it was used as a National Lampoon cover back in the 70s. It was tasteless then, and is far more tasteless and over-the-top now.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Mar 20, 2016, 02:41 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Violent imagery to build an anti Hillary meme in the minds of Bernie people. No way. That is Trumplike propaganda.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Lots of ad lib responses (perhaps nonchalant), but is totally in keeping as a response in the sub thread. And I do recall the, "subscribe or we shoot this dog", ad at National Lampoon. Does that make me biased?
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: While I truly believe people need to get their shit together and vote accordingly in the GE so that Trump doesn't win, people ARE entitled to their opinion. This is how people feel. This is a discussion board. Let's discuss things.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Ramping up the hate does a disservice to Democratic ideology. We should be coming together to fight our common for.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I see since the 70's you still haven't developed a sense of humour .
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

(2,949 posts)But it ain't gonna happen. Many of Bernie supporters are green party types and/or independents. They have no interest in supporting the status quo.
The millennials supporting Bernie are also looking for a change and may just stay home. This is not as bad as it sounds many Republicans have said they will stay home if election is between Trump and Hillary.

(4,176 posts)why, but that is a fact.
That you are now putting out a line in the sand that now, for some reason, you wont vote for a corp friendly politician while you have always done only that in the past (other than Bernie and a couple others, they all are).
Fine time to draw that line, what a shame actually.

(1,890 posts)The margin of error is 4.38%. Clinton may not defeat Trump with the 38-36. Bernie's numbers are outside the margin of error.
edhopper
(37,370 posts)and 50% in 12 in Utah.
So these numbers show that Hillary would do quite well against Trump.
At some point the Bernie supporters will have to decide what they will do if Hillary is the nominee.
noretreatnosurrender
(1,890 posts)These numbers show Hillary to be within the margin of error, nothing more. If Hillary is the nominee we will make our decisions at that point. Until then, the race goes on and may the best candidate win.

(13,006 posts)I think for the most part, Bernie supporters who are Dems will, by and large, vote for Hillary. Bernie supporters who are independent will split the vote in some as yet unknown way... combination of Hillary, Trump, Green, or just staying home.
At some point the Hillary supporters will have to decide what they will do if Bernie is the nominee.

(1,890 posts)I posted in two threads about Utah last night. This is one of them.
"Here's what I know," said Nathan Nelson, a Provo dad. "I will not vote for Trump."
Nelson, who grew up in a conservative family, doesn't support abortion and is actively LDS. But he said he was taught to love each other and take care of each other, and he said Sanderss policies align with those values better than any of the other candidates.
You don't have to triangulate to appeal to people in Red states. There are other ways of finding common ground.

(872 posts)The primary states are stacked, mostly, although not all, Hillary states then follow on Bernie states. Plus most of the Hillary states vote Republican in the general.

(98 posts)Things have changed since 2008. Congress is now less popular than cockroaches. The media is also stained by the political cesspool it inhabits and serves as gatekeeper for. Trump has been able to stand down Fox "News" while beating them with their own stick; the media can't refuse the ratings bonanza even though they're hysterically trying to slay their Frankenstein creation. Hillary is only slightly less repulsive than Trump to voters and has become the ultimate proselytizer of fear and lesser evilism. Also, to those not willing to perform the verbal cleansing and dear leader acrobatics of her admirers, her lies stand nakedly exposed as lies.
bluestateguy
(44,173 posts)and while I don't expect Hillary or Bernie to win Utah, they would win a few counties and clear 40% of the vote.

(2,197 posts)But things might look good for Arizona (big Mormon and Latino populations) and Montana (which Bill Clinton won once and Obama contested in 2008).
If the GOP is defending Arizona and Montana, they are in trouble...and it opens up many other roads for Hillary (or Bernie, for that matter) to get to 270 electoral votes.

Why is that?

(24,979 posts)Polls are totally irrelevant if they show Sanders doing better against Trump than Clinton would.
Polls are only relevant if they show Clinton ahead of Sanders in some state by 134 percent. Then they are science and math and anyone who disagrees hates math and science.

JackRiddler
(24,979 posts)Remember for Utah he's the wrong kind of Christian fanatic.
But Cruz is never going to beat Trump in delegates. Ever. Kasich has a better shot of that (in a united Anti-Trump scenario). Cruz is also never going to be nominated at a brokered convention. Ever, ever.
ON EDIT: I could be wrong about Utah, sorry. I just remembered that Mitt Romney made complete fools the other day of all the liberals who had been hailing him as the voice of reason against Trump's insanity and hatred, because he endorsed... Cruz!

(4,558 posts)I get what you mean though, it's like several months ago, when all these polls showed Sanders losing by a landslide all of his supporters were pushing for him to call it quits.
JackRiddler
(24,979 posts)Among the Clinton supporters I mean.
First of all, Clinton ahead of a Republican in UTAH? Wow, that is historic.
But wait, Sanders much further ahead and furthermore to take this seriously would legitimate this form of November preference polling in primary season. We don't want that now!
So we stick to the line that it's not scientific polling.
Scientific is what shows Clinton winning Arizona and New York by a cumulative 940 points.

(544 posts)No, all of us here at DU will NOT vote for Hillary if it comes down to her or Trump. Some of us will write in Jill Stein of the Green Party. Jumping on the Hillary band wagon by compromising your principles is utterly distasteful. Trump is utterly disgusting. Hillary is utterly unappealing. It really bugs me to be told I'm expected to choose the lesser of two weevils. So much for democracy. Writing in Jill Stein won't get us much of anything, except, perhaps, the right to say "hell no!" to both the would-be dictator and to the pander-bear. It's not much, but at least I'll be able to live with myself for making that choice. Too bad we're a nation too ignorant to see the possibilities in the Bernie revolution. Oh well... I guess we'll get the government we deserve.

(2,570 posts)like somehow the rightwing assaults on Bernie are gonna have astronomical bad effects on him that they never could/would with Hillary, and my personal fav, that if Bernie can't beat her in the primaries, then he can't win the general -- which is like claiming that HC couldn't have beat the Mutt in 2012.
I'd posit that it's flawed thinking (to put it kindly) like that which explains who they support, and why.
