A little more on Trumpism

these are rough notes. These are just my notes on immigration. Read them though and it will start to click why he is popular with more than just the usual suspects. But why he is your last hurrah for White America, and i mean that in the racist meaning of oh the usual places. (And now that I am done with the transcribing I now can do this directly on my computer, that will save boatloads of time)

A country that doesn’t control its borders can’t survive, especially with what is going on right now.

* Xenophobia. This is deep in the American psyche. This phrase has been used in the past by Right Wing operatives.
* Common Sense solutions: This is a clear appeal to populism.

While he does say that he wants to preserve legal immigration, the way he reads is far more to stop it as much as possible. He also raises the specter of terrorists coming thought he southern border from the middle east. This is a common trope for the Right Wing, never mind that the few who have, did come though Canada.

There are aspects that come out:

* Man of action
* Man with the solution
* Man willing to lead

While he claims not to be against legal immigration, and it is highly nodded, he prefers white, christian european immigrants like his parents. Brown people need not apply and he highly codes this in the law an order talk. This is ugly racism, but it is not fully in the open.

He also makes many empty claims This is especially the case with what other governments do. He does not expect to be fact checked. This is the wall that Americans for Common Sense claim was the border wall between Mexico and Guatemala.. he has used this claim in the book

This is the Arizona sector of the US Mexico border by the way.

This is the actual border between Mexico and Guatemala.

Trump supporters are using a photo of the US- Mexico Border though the American southwest, not even something that distantly looks like a jungle.

He also skillfully uses fear, and the Mariel Boat Lift to paint all illegal immigrants as dirty brown people. The murder in San Fran of a young woman by a Mexico citizen, he claims the Mexican government threw him across five times. There are programs in Mexico dealing with the dangers of crossing the border illegally, some funded by the State Department. They are not done to encourage people to cross the border.

* Trump has issues with brown people
* Trump would prefer only white christian european immigration to the United States. This is also a direct appeal to the “white lives matter” crowd.

The wall is not just about keeping undesirables out, but also about preserving the white nature of the United States. This is about preserving the current white social order,

* Nativist
* Xenophobic
* “white lives matter.”
* Our America (white America) is disappearing.
* Make America great again, meaning a white, Christian, Western European, Christian values America.

The way that Trump uses the Wall in Israel and in China is to keep the undesirables out. Of course he claims that Mexico will claim for the wall. He is not taking (yet) of freezing Mexican assets. What he is saying is:

* Enforce existing laws (Law and Order type, RW trope)
* Refusal of visas, charging more for permits (Isolation)

He doubts e-verify, which is a federal mandate, will help in any way. It is also another piece of federal regulation. He also brings up birth right citizenship. He wants to end it, again, to keep brown people out. He gives the example of birth tourism, which is mostly Chinese, so that tells a lot about his fears about the transformation of the country into a majority-minority nation.

He wants to remove the right to birth right citizenship from those who are legally in the United States, for example green card holders. But then conflates the issue by going straight to those who are here illegally.

* Strong man characteristic: Conflates the issues
* Birth Tourism is mostly a Chinese phenomena. He is against Non-White Immigration

In the mind of his followers those who come to the States to study and are sent back are not Mexican, but white Europeans. Never mind they can attend European universities for a lot less. This is deeply coded racism. But this is also popular with followers.

He is also woefully unaware of current immigration patterns. Or what laws have been passed

Well, metaphorically - I'd use MY 2nd amendment rights if he actually came near them.

He's not an uneducated man. So what he's doing (all that you mention) is deliberate, intentional, malice aforethought race baiting. He's the absolute last person this country needs anywhere near Washington DC.

Note I say not uneducated - but at the same time, he is woefully ignorant. And proud of it.

What better combination for the "usual suspects".

like Nazi'ism, it was a reporter who did that. Then he wrote a book that many here should read, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.

There is very small comfort in knowing my grandgirls have 2nd backup homes in Mexico and Portugal. But this is their home and birthplace. They have a right to grow up and live here - happy and free of the hatred that Trump along with his white-sheeted camp spew.

The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. My Emmy told me she just read it. It scared her sick.

In the canvassing and phone banking I did for Bernie in IL, Trump supporters almost universally say first thing that they support him because of his immigration position.

They said they resent those who've come across the border without going through the proper channels.

They want someone to actually DO something about illegal immigration and they like what they're hearing from Trump.

the problem is the parties treat them as lego blocks, but the divisions would surprise people.

More than a few who came legally will support him, and more than people think
