Trump weighs in on call to allow guns at GOP convention

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/online-petition-calls-for-guns-to-be-allowed-at-republican-convention/

GOP front-runner Donald Trump said Sunday that he will take a closer look at an online petition calling for the Republican convention this summer to allow guns into the convention space has received tens of thousands of signatures on Change.org.

The petition notes that Ohio is an open-carry state, but that the website for the Quicken Loans Arena--the site of the convention in Cleveland--says the venue forbids "firearms and other weapons of any kind."

"This is a direct affront to the Second Amendment and puts all attendees at risk," the petition reads. "As the National Rifle Association has made clear, 'gun-free zones' such as the Quicken Loans Arena are 'the worst and most dangerous of all lies.'"

snip

A spokeswoman for the Republican Convention's host committee told the Akron Beacon Journalthat the U.S. Secret Service is handling security plans for the event in conjunction with local, state and federal authorities, and that they will be "continuously refining security plans leading up to the national convention."

A political party that constantly calls for the end of Federal oversight, is now depending on a Federal agency to handle their security plans!!!

Talk about being a bunch of mealy mouthed, cowardly f**ks!!!

I know that we have several folks here at DU who like to repeatedly threaten those of us who teach at state universities with OPEN CARRY.

Let's see how politicians deal with it when it's their parties (and their national Democratic and Republican conventions) being threatened with OPEN CARRY.

It may not seem as funny then.

It's DOMESTIC TERRORISM, plain and simple.

It's disgusting that that such Domestic Terrorism is tolerated here at DU.

Let's see if the Democratic and Republican Parties tolerate such Domestic Terrorism at their venues.

They threaten us ordinary folks with it every day on websites such as DU.

If these morons want to carry guns into a national convention, let them?

Just goes to show you that the Dems are adults in the room.

. . .this is not a 2nd amendment issue, because that amendment applies to government making restrictions. This is private property. The people who own the Q can make rules about guns without running afoul of the 2nd amendment.

So, Trump's taking a look at it is the smart thing to do, whether he is aware enough to know that or not.

Jesus -- it's a "yes" or "no" question. Do you support guns at the convention, or not?

Pretty clever way, though, of backing the GOP into a corner.

Just like he said he'd "take a closer look at" paying the legal fees of people assaulting protesters at his rallies.

He knows he can't do it, but if he comes out and says it, the Trumpkins who globbed all that adoration on him will suddenly think he's weak and jump ship.
