I deliver pizzas a couple of days a week, mainly for beer and golf money. I don't need the job, but it keeps me occupied.
Our shop is in a small strip mall, that we share with a sports bar, a Jimmy Johns franchise, and an AT&T store.
So I walked out to my car for a delivery, and heard some idiot behind my car ranting and raving about fucking assholes (he saw my Bernie 2016, and Feel the Bern bumperstickers on my car) Since I was on the clock, and my boss treats me pretty well, I really didn't want to engage with the nutcase anyway, so I tried to ignore him. He wouldn't let up as I was backing out and demanded to know if I was a Communist or an asshole. I told him both, and I was just 'feelin' the Bern, and that I was delighted at having ruined his day.
I could still hear him frothing at the mouth as I drove away. I mean seriously, dude. If I'd had 10 minutes to spare, I could have had you ready to be fitted for a straight jacket.

(4,351 posts)My Bernie sticker has been on my car for five or six months now, and -- so far -- no Limbicile has confronted me about it here in Jacksonville. or elsewhere.
Quite the contrary, when I picked up my Christmas tree, the kid who tied it to the roof of my car complimented me. I've had people tap their horns and wave at me while passing. One woman at a stoplight actually shouted that she liked my sticker. The worst thing to happen was finding my car blocked into a parking space by shopping carts, but that could have just been someone's laziness rather than hostility.
But then, I live/shop/work/dine in one of the older neighborhoods rather than a suburb or exurb.
Well played, Fuddnik! Stay strong!

I wear my Bernie hat, shirt, hoodie, all of the time. I get, "nice shirt," from the young'uns, and I get glares from the old Limbiciles. I'm waiting for an ignorant remark but haven't gotten one yet. When the "Commie" line comes out I'm ready with something like, Yeah, any time someone wants to represent the people they are labeled a commie by the elites. It's sad that so many people fall for the propaganda.

(14,422 posts)I was about to glare at a car that overtook me in limited lane space, till I saw their Bernie stickers. Gave 'em a wave instead. Sometimes (most of the time?) it's better to lob irony than insults. The effect is likely more interesting.
And it was Easter.

(32,351 posts)I don't put bumper stickers on my car for precisely the reason there are way too many ignorant, flag waving, Bible-beater, gun-toting a$$holes
in NC. We live in the blue oasis of Chapel Hill, but even here the Republican types are invading. And it really was frightening to see
the bad protoplasm that shot and killed three, wonderful young Muslim students here last year over a parking space dispute. You just
don't know who is carrying and I hesitate to get into it with anyone in an open space.

(1,515 posts)I heard an interview with the maker of this 2015 documentary on the David Feldman podcast this week and your thought that this might have been a guy in his 70s made me think of it.
I know a lot of family members who went from voting FDR to Limbaugh-listening in their lifetimes. Perhaps they were always racists, but certainly no joy to be around in the past few decades and they just rant and turn every conversation hateful.

(50,566 posts)the politics of my parents' friends and acquaintances. Well, it turns out most of them turned out to be rabid racists/rightwingers/Republicans who complain about "illegals." They are that Eisenhower generation -- mid-70s to mid-80s. I don't know if they were always like that or if they changed.
I think they grew up in a USA where the White Man was unquestionably King of All. So, in a way, a lot of this is a reaction to their perceived change in status. However, my Gen X peers who are rabid rightwingers are a bit of a mystery. I think a lot of them were what we used to call "Reagan Youth" in the early-mid 80s who never gave up their preppy, conservative ways.

(180 posts)I was leaving a restaurant, and I saw this guy walking away from the counter shouting at the generally young staff " . . .And all you want fifteen an hour . . . this is bullshit!", with a toddler in one arm. His young daughter preoccupied with her frozen custard. He must have been illiterate, and mistaken the Culver's printed on their aprons as Bernie 2016.
He probably thought it was apropos, (whatever his complaint was) and it looked so much like a "When have you stopped beating your wife?" variety of put-on. Why bring up ham-fisted political rhetoric with a bunch of teenagers?

(6,699 posts)Too cowardly to wear it in public or just too ashamed of their own stupidity....or both.
No Bernie sticker on my cars because I fear for my wife driving alone, and driving for Uber/Lyft, I get an occasional ass hole in my car. I try to stay away from bringing up politics, but when the generic subject arises, I have yet to find one reich winger brown shirt in the open.
My theory is these people have come out of the closet with their bigotry and hatred. Maybe it's a good thing, because now at least we are dealing with it in the open. Better than have them wear their white hoods. Everybody is "out of the closet now", so we can all start accepting reality. I honestly can't help but believe these drumpf supporters are going to have to come to terms with their sickness, once the mass rallies subside. They will be alone to deal with their shame. Maybe then this country can start to heal. Cruz supporters, on the other hand, are a lost bunch of souls. I see little to no hope for them.
I'll be so glad when this is finally over. The exposure of ignorance is heart breaking. I've always been ashamed of some of "the ugly Americans" as I've traveled around the world. I just didn't realize there was so damned many of them. A bit depressing, but let's deal with it!

(3,040 posts)I had a Bush bumper sticker on my car ca. 2004. I was out at the beach here in NJ & when I came back to my car, I found someone threw what looked like a milkshake on my windshield, what looked like spit on my mirrors & ripped off my bumper sticker and put it in my door handle. Since then, I have learned the error of my political ways and became a progressive. But, I refrain from putting any political bumper stickers on my car.

(8,846 posts)It was Memorial Day week-end, and I was just finishing an 18 hour, 1200 mile, straight through drive. I had a yellow Chevy S-10 pick-up, with Kerry bumper stickers, and all kinds of anti-Republican stickers on the back. As I'm within 2-3 miles from home, I'm behind this rolling scrap heap that's driving too slow. Her vanity license plate was "DUBYA".
I pulled around her, and drove at her speed for the next mile or so, and in my rear view mirror, it looked like she was performing a raging exorcism on my truck.

(12,132 posts)it's older now but the HOA has kept up standards and it's well kept and attractive. (I am not a huge fan of HOAs but the fees here are reasonable and they do police it pretty well - if that's the kind of thing you're into. Grandpa keeps his yard up and likes when everyone else does too). (I mean, he's not a yard nazi - he won't report anyone like some folks do. But he likes the neighborhood looking nice and, frankly, it's a lot nicer than mine which has no HOA but tons of crappy rentals and a few people who care)
Grandpa has had his Obama yard signs stolen on many occasions but, more recently, we were over there having a cookout and my aunt had her car parked in the back driveway (Grandpa's house is on the point were two streets meet so his front yard is one street and his back yard is on a different street) with all her Obama stickers on it at some point during the day someone left nasty post-it notes on her car calling her a traitor and said she should be ashamed. Much like you. we were bemused and not at all sad she messed up someone's day.
We still don't know which neighbor it was but we have our suspicions and were pleasantly surprised that the number 1 suspect has put up a for sale sign. Grandpa has lived there since 1975 so he knows most of the long-time neighbors so this could only have been one of the newer ones and that's the guy next door who is selling. We won't miss them.

(15,182 posts)I can remember about a year and a half after Obama was elected and we'd started having some good jobs months. This asshole in a giant RAM 4X4 (Guts! Glory! RAM!) tried to run me off the road because of my Obama bumper sticker.
While he was steering his giant RAM toward my little Buick sedan he was leaning out the window yelling, "Hey, how's that hopey-changey thing going?"
When I finally got home, I remember wondering about this whole thing as by any measure I knew of, Obama was doing a pretty good job. Oh, I was disappointed we got ACA instead of single payer, but in all he was doing great.
But there are a few places, Fox 'news' and hate-talk radio, where Obama will NEVER be acknowledged as doing ANYTHING right whatsoever, will never even be acknowledged as an American, where his entire presidency is considered a failure and de-legitimized.
Hey right wingers, you don't think this constant hate-talk breeds violence??????
So, Fuddnik, be very careful around assholes like this because besides being crazy, the NRA has GUARANTEED they are HEAVILY ARMED.
