I know, I get a lot of weird looks. Ironically I get the same weird looks if I pick up a piece of pizza with my hands in Sweden.

If I am at a restaurant I use a knife and fork....at home I can go either way.

It's a common foodie no-no, as if it somehow changes the flavor.

I learned this years ago when I was supplying a local coffee house with a flourless chocolate cake I used to make. I would frost it as specified in my recipe (top and sides) but discovered from the coffeehouse that it wasn't selling well at all. So what did I do? I added some chocolate shavings to the side. Made it look prettier. The flavor of the cake remained exactly the same. And yet, it sold out, and faster than the other cake had.

When it comes to food, people are idiots. And traditions just make that idiocy worse.

Spearing little pieces IS easier with a fork. But picking up a whole slice is easier with your hand.

You can't seriously think it would look better for someone to cut pizza into little, less hot pieces, and then pick up each little piece with his fingers.

Real pizza is cooked in a wood fired brick oven covered with scamorza cheese (A smoked water buffalo mozzerrella ) and served at 4500-6000 degrees farenheit...Believe me I have the burn scars on my chin...

Because, ultimately, that's all your tastebuds care about. Your mind cannot change the flavor because that's a chemical process that is set by the cooking of the pizza. Eating it with your hands or a knife and fork changes nothing, other than hurting the feelings of uptight foodies.

Usually they're strong traditionalists, and sometimes they're foodies. But most times it's people who seem to think it really is sacrilegious to eat pizza in ways other than the traditional way, and to do so in New York City, no less!!1!

Again, it's laughable that it's serious to people, even on this thread.

I'm nowhere near as adventurous any more, preferring those handful of places I know have quality food. The rest I make myself.

And now I'm "juicing" with a new appliance. It seems to reign in my appetite. We'll see what it does for my weight...
