Heres an amazing short film titled The Old New World by photographer and animator Alexey Zakharov of Moscow, Russia. Zakharov found old photos of US cities from the early 1900s and brought them to life.
The photos show New York, Boston, Detroit, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore between 1900 and 1940, and were obtained from the website Shorpy.
Its a photo-based animation project that offers a travel back in time with a little steampunk time machine, Zakharov says. The main part of this video was made with camera projection based on photos.

(16,230 posts)The animation is amazing. I think current technology isn't quite there yet in rendering people, some of them don't look quite real, but that's not Zakharov's fault. He did an amazing job with this.
The day is coming when real actors will no longer be a necessity.

(30,179 posts)No woman was wearing hoop skirts in 1931 yet every woman depicted in the animation was dressed like an extra from Gone With The Wind.
Other than that, pretty cool. I saw photos from places I recognized in NYC, Boston, and DC. And I loved that there were a number of dogs in the animation.
