Sanders and his wife, Jane, donated $8,350 to charity while reporting an adjusted gross income of about $205,000 that year, according to his tax return. The share of his family's income that went to charity was about half the percentage of income that his primary opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, gave to charitable groups.
Sanders contrasted his modest wealth with Clinton's multimillion-dollar income, a significant portion of which has come in the form of paid speeches to corporate and interest groups.
"I don't want to get anybody very excited. They are very boring tax returns," Sanders said. "No big money from speeches, no major investments. Unfortunately, I remain one of the poorer members of the United States Senate. And that's what that will show."

(18,929 posts)You know the one that amends his prior years' incomes with millions in speaking fees, claiming their grandkids and dog as dependents, not reporting purchase of second vacation home in a faraway place and proof of health insurance? Oh wait...

(24,848 posts)That's three times what Sanders donated in 2014 by pecentage. In dollars, the Clintons donated $15-million to charity in the past 10 years. And, yes, much of that $15-million was the money they earned from giving speeches.

(24,848 posts)I wonder why the CBS report in the OP gets this wrong, saying the Clintons donated only 8%. Her full tax teturns are available for the past ten years. The info has been sitting out there forever.

How much more money did the Clinton's make? I'm sure if Bernie won the Lotto he'd donate a bigger chunk, but the guy has to feed his family. Bernie's money comes from working as a representative of his people. Where did the Clintons? Foreign investors in their global charity front? Speeches to companies that poison our air and water?
This is a sick NOT SO SUBTLE SLUR!
Cut it out!
