The US Conservative movement dumped the kitniyot rules in December ( the Israeli Masorti movement did it years ago). I started eating rice and beans four or five years ago because the rule was dumb 700 years ago, and remains dumb today. We will be eating red bean chili over kosher for Passover red rice this week! Chag Pesach Sameach to you!

Really it is an awful myth wrapped in a thin veneer of liberation. What I have learned over the decades is that most people never examine their rituals, never consider what the words are actually saying. They do what they have always done because they have always done it, unexamined, uncritically.

At the point in the Seder where a tribal God slaughters innocents to demonstrate his power, I inevitably fail to keep my mouth shut.

King Josiah in the 7th century BCE was having a few issues with Pharaoh and was the head of a few disparate tribes So to create a nation he had a few scribes write the whole thing... that is why the bible pulls in myths from everywhere. The first person that might have existed. historians believe. is a chieftain called David. Oh and yes they did find what might have been his not so grand stables.

I read into the real history of these things a while ago. That does not mean if we (or rather when) we have another bout of antisemitism, I won't be reminded of my jewishness and why the dog whistles here on the old DU in the recent past have raised a certain level of well alarm.

That said, the real stories are far better than the myths, at least to me, and put the whole thing in far more context. So in the end it was propaganda...

By the way, Noah is a Mesopotamian myth with a grain of truth and the Song of Songs is an Egyptian poem.

They did not have laws against copy right infringement back then.

And it is still a nice story, and Hollywood's tenth commandments with Heston has a certain magic still as movie magic goes.

There are thousands of versions out there. Instead of dwelling on the mythology, how about just reflecting on the liberation story that is so powerful that it has been adopted as an inspiration by billions of people worldwide? Any celebration of freedoms obtained or that shall be obtained is worthy of four glasses of wine IMHO.
