Not this thread, but the cartoon itself.

This is why I've never volunteered to host a major forum and resigned fast from hosting a group. I'm way stricter than I should be.

(This post is mildly tongue in cheek, in case you can't tell. Very mildly, though. )

where Merk's dad had a heart attack and he was lying there in the hospital and says

"You know when you come close to death you look back at your life and all the mistakes you've made."

and Mark says

"That's how you grow. You will be a better person for having faced up to those mistakes."

he says

"I suppose you are right."

"But do you realize I could have bought Xerox at 8 and a quarter?"

another one from way back, University students were listing their demands and they asked Notre Dame what their demand was and the reply was "more football games".

A third post popped up in Good Reads about the same time (I don't have the link, more's the pity) explaining how the "Economic Revival" since 2007 is really just smoke and mirrors... one can derive a narrative about the divergence of interests in America between the ruling class and the ruled from this combination.

I remember as a guest on David Letterman, back at the start of the war, David asked him off the cuff about predicting how long we were going to be there, and I think suggested something like 5 years. I remember David, and I too, being shocked when he said "I'm sorry to say this but I don't see us leaving there for at least 30 years" paraphrased. Not saying I believe in that kind of prophetic gift, but I also think he is one of those gifted people that is more sensitive and aware than most. And I started preparing my brain for that reality.

Actual conventional large-scale military maneuvers took very little time, and that was what they were talking about with 'the war will be over in six weeks" and even the "Mission Accomplished" noise. Nobody in power cared much about what came after the conquest... err, Liberation. All that "the people will greet us with open arms" and "the war will be over in six weeks" nonsense was just to pacify the marks. Wasted effort, really, since they paid no attention to the will of the people anyway when they embarked on their adventure.

You may recollect that when William Sherman asserted at the beginning of the Civil War that the thing would take years to resolve and involve enormous losses in lives and treasure, he was adjudged insane and relieved of his command. No country ever wants to admit that their proposed war will take years. Remember "Home Before the Leaves Fall" in 1914?

Don't get me wrong. I get the point of this cartoon.
But I'd back away from describing this as 'hillarious' if you don't mind.

Suicide among veterans is still way too high (as if there's an acceptable number).

PTSD is not a condition that goes away with the cable news cycle. It endures. And the toll on veterans and their families continues. Day by mother-ducking day. (Thank you, auto-correct!)

Meanwhile, the Repuke-led Congress continue to spend their time campaigning and fund raising -- thanks, 60 Minutes, for pointing that out to us in TV Land. These so-called public servants rage about waiting times at VA hospitals and out-patient clinics, and easily segue to talking points about privatization. While cutting or withholding funds from the VA.

In the meantime, wounded warriors are hurting. And the non-profit organization which capitalizes on their situation continues to rake in big bucks, while spinning through their scandalous revelations in main stream media.

OK, rant over. <sigh!>

Thanks Garry, for keeping this in our stream of consciousness, such as it is.

If they had not installed Dubya after an election he actually lost, no Iraq War, trillions not spent, thousands and thousands alive and whole, no ISIS.

History will look at the 2000 election as a travesty. So much chicanery deleting thousands of likely democratic voters off the voting registry, and on and on. The brother of Dubya is governor, his state election campaign head the top election official in Florida. I mean really?

It has astonished me that even MSNBC let this all lay, never really delved into it. Greg Palast, who did, did not get a sniff from big media here, he had to work from Britain.
