A Muslim woman who allegedly sent “suspicious” packages to New York Rep. Peter King and New York state Sen. Greg Ball in November was shot to death by police on Christmas morning in Marietta, Georgia, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

Jameela Cecila Barnette allegedly attacked a Cobb County police officer who had knocked on her apartment door after responding to an alarm. She was armed with a knife and a handgun, and the officer fired his weapon at Barnette in response to the assault, according to Cobb Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce. Barnette died at the scene.

Rep. King, the chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, has set a controversial series of hearings on Muslim radicalization in the United States. Critics have accused King of unfairly targeting Muslims in the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist strikes, and ignoring other radical groups.

She had also mailed a pig’s foot to Rep. Peter King (R-L.I.) in response to controversial hearings he held in March on the purported radicalization of American Muslims, Politico has reported.

A spokesman for Cobb County Police said an armed Barnette was shot to death after officers responded to a panic alarm she activated at her apartment at 11 a.m. Christmas Day.

When the cops arrived, Barnette opened the door while wielding a knife and a handgun and assaulted an officer with the blade, the spokesman said."

5. Suicide by cop, maybe?

Why would a purported Muslim send something that is "unclean" and "haram" (forbidden) to touch to someone who doesn't give a crap about it? King is a Catholic--there's nothing forbidden about a pig's foot as far as he is concerned. What a stupid and pointless effort at drama.

I get a vague impression that she might have wanted someone to kill her. I wonder if the choice of Christmas Day had some significance. I also have to wonder if the balance of her mind was disturbed.

There are many similarities between Muslim and Jewish dietary laws--the "no pork" thing goes both ways. She'd have to handle the offending item(s) to mail them to him.

Maybe she confused him with Alan King? Larry King?


I always thought King was rather "out there" with the Catholicism, but I'm no expert on his career!

9. Activated the panic alarm ? Sounds like she was trying to set an ambush.

My money is on "mentally unbalanced". She might very well have done this out of religious fundamentalism, but that doesn't mean she wasn't way more unbalanced than the usual fundie.

2. When one is under federal indictment, it's best not to answer the door with a gun and a knife.

8. Peter King is a pathetic "wannabe".....

.......I wish that I still had the video of his remark referring to the GOPs "ownership" of the computerized election process....BTW Prince George and he were on the WH lawn if I recall correctly when kidding around with a reporter, King made a Freudian slip....The clips money shot was Bushs visable grimmace after the remark and then the photo shoot was over.....

Sounds fishy. Peter King is an A-hole. All this will do is give him more anti-Muslim ammo. I'm already sick of the so called Homegrown radicalization Terrorism nonsense legislation as it is.
