it is I don't think it would be valid because it wasn't filed with the court.

It is crazy that he had all that money and assets and no will. My spouse and I were talking about this and he finally agreed that we need a will. I have been mentioning it for decades.

A statute of limitations does apply, but I doubt that the statute in Minnesota is less than a month.

He could have a will on file with a court already, but that won't be known until a death certificate has been issued. But I do wonder why none of his attorneys have spoken up. Surely they had him do some sort of estate planning.

It is most unusual for someone worth that much $ left no will.

his attorney would have advised him to provide an unsigned copy to the Executor. That is what our attorney advised. He should have kept the signed will in the vault. However, he may not have provided the combination to the vault to anyone.

legally responsible for guarding his music which is part of his estate
Also in interviews I have seen Prince mentioned how he didn't like to think of things like his own death
Speculation below
So he may have been opposed to a physical paper referring to after he departed
