Yes, most of North Florida and the Panhandle are red as blood, but Alachua County and Gainesville are as blue as Leon County. The Orlando area with its influx of film industry people has also turned less red than it used to be - that is why Alan Grayson has been able to get into office.

The I-4 corridor itself used to be really red but even that area is fading to purple for most of the length.

Brown also criticised Scott for sticking his head in the sand and covering up the effects of climate change of the state of Florida. He sent him a new study, and rubbed Scott's nose in it, implying that Florida was a risky move when property was becoming uninsurable due to high tide, storm surge and sea level rise.

Regardless of whether one likes or dislikes what he's doing, it will work. Texas has been the other State that has received news coverage for wooing businesses away from California. So Scott didn't go out there on a whim of "Oh gee, I wonder if...." There's solid evidence that says he can get a substantial numbers of businesses to either relocate or expand into FL, otherwise he wouldn't go. I have no doubt he's already had contact with enough to warrant him making this trip. And he doesn't care if Gov. Brown likes it or not or what kind of letter he wrote. And if CA is gaining all the jobs Brown says they are, then losing a bunch won't really matter.

I've noted on this board it's easier to slap someone on the back and yell for your team than it is to face even the most simplistic of truths.

The only point I made is that Scott will accomplish what he went to do. That's all I said. He went to CA to entice additional businesses to relocate or to open up their territory into FL. Nothing wrong with that.

Now if you want to see some of the businesses who left CA for TX, you can find them using your favorite search engine. But they are there.

I'll only add this: The best thing Brown could have done was to say to businesses "And here's why you should stay" and then make a list. But a letter that says "Mind your own State's business" is easily met by "If you don't like what I'm doing, make them a better offer." Then game on.

Of course he will get some jobs to move there...just like Texas. There are a lot of business people who love slave labor and making profit. But it doesn't even put a dent in the job growth in California. And he doesn't understand why. I don't know if you do either. Higher wages actually help a state/city/community grow. It's only where jobs have been lost and wages dropped that suddenly the once thriving cities and states are struggling with poverty and joblessness. Like Detroit and Flint. Seattle has higher wages than many big cities and it's booming.

People like Bill Gates don't get it either and if anyone should it would be him...yet he still offshores his product manufacturing instead of making it here at home and building up the country with more good paying jobs.

Wages are generally most companies largest expense. There's one reason, among others, that companies relocate.

Look, if you got 2 kids in a neighborhood who are willing to mow a lawn, and they both do an equally good job, but one charges $20 and another charges $10, who are you going to get to cut your lawn? Do you really care if the $20 kid is on your block and the $10 kid is 3 blocks over? I know who I'm going to choose. That's America!

Gov Brown has a point, if insurance is sky high or if a business can't be certain if it has a loss that it will be covered...that's a major drawback right there.

Next, you have to have an available pool of skilled talent that meets your needs. If Florida doesn't have the composite make up for that, the cost of hiring goes up significantly.

Also, weather related events. If weather events can bring your business to a screeching halt and cause significant loss, you have another problem. Florida has issues with weather whereas California does not.

Access to markets is also important, the west coast is closer to Asian markets, manufacturing, etc.

Oh and location, location, location. Sure warehouse wages will go up with the minimum wage increase, but how do you offload a ship from China, Japan, Korea, etc. in Florida? The ship would have to sail via Panama Canal and increase shipping costs (which will make the minimum wage hike look like a pittance) and not to mention, greatly increase delivery time.

And for manufacturing jobs, the inputs also have to be close by. And if you are getting those from say Asia, Mexico or Canada....Florida doesn't look very appealing.

Finally, Infrastructure. Rail lines, roads, cargo airports, etc. are already developed in California. Florida doesn't have this capacity and to do so would result an increase in taxes....something Rick Scott is unwilling to do.

Help businesses manufacture solar panels, give property tax breaks to homeowners who install photo-voltaic panels, insist that utilities buy electricity from homeowners who generate more than they need.

Instead I think that Florida is one of the states that is making harder to get solar installed. They stopped giving state subsidies and are not trying to attract solar manufacturing plants.
