The GOP insiders would feel like they were being kicked out of their burning plantations. Notice no one has the nerve to voice THAT possibility, as the Breckenridge Dems split from the Douglas Dems to hand Lincoln the WH.

they have to back Trump, biting their nails that the maniac would not implode all over their electoral map or see a third party and choose a controlled crash, a bitter and difficult strategy they likely are incapable of.

The irony is that probably only Trump can give them something better. Like committing a major crime or contracting a major illness before June.
