it is not really a legalize mariiuana bill and still has tons of restrictions designed to keep the police state functioning smoothly
"The Adult Use of Marijuana Act would legitimize possession of 1 ounce of marijuana and cultivation of six marijuana plants for adults 21 and over. It would impose a 15 percent excise tax on all retail sales, though localities could still ban marijuana sales in their jurisdictions.
It also would impose an infraction and maximum fine of $100 for possession of more than an ounce of marijuana"

(78,249 posts)but I think it's six plants and an ounce of the dried stuff.
I guess you'd have to pick it an ounce at a time.

(25,816 posts)One pound of cleaned buds per plant is pretty good for me.
And a 100 dollar fine is better than a year in jail.
I've been busted twice for possession--no fun, even if it was misdemeanor.

(78,249 posts)Therein lies the rub. San Jose, for one, has tried to zone dispensaries out almost completely the way Ghouliani did with adult entertainment in NYC.

(12,618 posts)The current medical card system is better than this garbage. Getting a card is so easy in CA that marijuana is practically legal already. And the grow limits are much bigger in many counties that what this crap bill currently allows. I plan on voting no. Outright legalization or forget it.

(87 posts)I just worry they'll try marginalize this through a bunch of zoning technicalities. Seems like they always put in a bunch of crazy restrictions against retail shops not being within 1000 feet of schools and other absurd stuff. It's still literally miles better than the progress my state has made on this issue. Our government failed to even pass a restrictive MMJ bill, and the people planning a ballot initiative gave up for the time being.

(6,169 posts)You can have six plants but only one ounce "ready to smoke"? What, are we supposed to harvest and dry one branch at a time?

(1,507 posts)That it would be legal in any state let alone 4 and counting. The festering rememants of just say no were still driving the conversation and the gateway drug argument was still prevalent. Legalization seemed like a fantasy.
I still live in a deep red state but have experienced the joy of being able to purchase weed legally on a visit to a nearby state. The first time I did it the experience nearly brought tears to my eyes.
Anyway, here's to progress no matter what form it takes.
